... but I do believe I paid them to do it.  But aside from that, no colds, flu, STD's, rip-offs, etc.

Never been mugged or ripped off by a provider, and I've seen probably 400 over the last 40 years.

Outside of the hobby, been mugged twice, long ago, in NYC, on the street; and burglarized three times - again, long ago when I was "poor" and lived in a poor neighborhood.  They got my original vinyl copy of the Velvet Underground's first album - the one with the Andy Warhol peel-off banana.  Probably would be worth hundreds today....  "makes me feel like Jesus' son..."

Got the clap once from a girl in a massage parlor on 8th Avenue and 43rd Street in 1973; we were both high and hot to trot, and neither of us could find a condom.

The clap was relatively mild and easy to take care of compared to the crabs I got from a co-ed on a one-night-stand a couple of months later.  If you haven't had the crabs, you haven't lived: it's a really important life experience -- makes daily worries and stress pale by comparison.

And for the record, I test regularly and am clean.

I wasn't robbed by a date, but rather on the street. My backpack housed my wallet, cell phone, and LAPTOP!!! I'm so sad about my computer. I wrote some truly great things on there, and I just want my word files back. Money can be replaced, but my theory on phallocentrism, psyco-analytic theory of masculinity, logocentrism, and life after derrida....I WANT IT BACK!!

I once had ALL my clothes stolen from my apartment. All of my underwear, dirty underwear, special dresses, the skirts I had sewn myself, and towels...all gone! Man, a girl is very partial to her lingerie collection. That royally pissed me off.

(hit the wrong button, sorry)

I was going to say the only time I was robbed was on a real date the summer in between high school and college. I was living with friends and she was living with her parents so we had no place for privacy so we drove to a local park. But then she didn't feel comfortable being in the car so she got out and we started walking near the woods.

Next thing I knew some druggie pulls a knife on us, orders me down on the ground, took my wallet and my car keys and then marched off with her.

Fortunately, she was released unharmed and, at that age, the money lost was insignifcant but she blamed me for what happened and the relationship was rocky from then on.

I've never been mugged by a hobbyist, but I have been shorted. Oh well, live and learn.

Here's one for the bizarre theft category that seems to be developing on this thread...

One fine and lovely summer day I left to run errands. My bedroom window was open and I never thought a thing of it because I live on a half-story, so my window is about 10 feet off the ground and the neighborhood is nice.

Later that evening, I went into my bedroom and my first thought was "Why did I strip my bedding? I don't remember doing laundry". Then I realized that I hadn't stripped my bed - but someone had. A shirt that had been lying on the bed was FOLDED and lying on my dresser, my pillow were left behind, and lying on the bed, but the bedding - fitted sheet, top sheet, comforter, and pillow cases - were gone. Nothing else in my apartment was disturbed. Just the bedding stolen. They had cut through the screen in the window and just climbed in, folded the shirt that was in the way, took the bedding, and left.

How bizzare :o)

...not a burglary or a mugging but a story where a man came home to something he didn't expect.

My sister has a rather frumpy-looking friend who started a long-distance affair with a guy over the internet. She knew the guy was married but, when he invited her to come see him while the wife was out of town, she drove for a day and a half just to see him.

They had their tryst in his home and he had to leave for work early the next morning so he left her a key and told her how to let herself out.

Instead, she decided the guy was a jerk, felt guilty about cheating with him and got back at him the way only a woman would do:

She cleaned.

Cleaned out the refrigerator. Cleaned the stove. Washed and neatly folded his clothes (but not the wife's). Cleaned the bathrooms. Dusted. Then she locked up the house and left.

In short, she was leaving clues everywhere that would force him to have to explain to his wife how the house got cleaner while she was away and yet her laundry was left undisturbed.

If my sister's friend ever found out the aftermath, she never told my sister.

I was burglarized and they took my laptop. Fortunately, they left the desktop at the backdoor because it was heavy. I lost some writing and especially some drawings done with my drawing tablets.

But what would he want with clean underwear? Makes no sense, unless he has a gf.

You bring the undies home to the GF and she tells you that they're the wrong size, style, color or fabric.  Now what???  Exchange them with the neighbor of the original owner?

Wearing them himself seems to be more likely, although I can't really understand that one either.

Caught a case of the crabs once.  Still not sure if it was from the lady I met or the hotel I was in because a couple months later, I stayed at the same hotel, had a sex-free weekend, and started up with a second case of the little buggers.

Haven't been mugged or robbed yet.  One car was banged up in a hit-and-run over twenty years ago, another broken into about ten years ago.  Nothing was stolen though; guy probably figured that, what with all my dirty and clean clothes in there, I was probably on my way to being homeless and felt sorry for me.

Made the mistake of trusting someone.  A woman I knew got pregnant by a guy we worked with, a guy who claimed he was still a virgin three months later and never stepped forward to take responsibility for it (devote born-again Christian, my ass).  Instead of moving to another city that summer, I put that off to help her through her pregnancy.  I had only intended to help her with the moral support but wound up helping her financially, too; never intended to fall head over heels for her and her kids.  A few months later, I helped her move out-of-state, to stay with her folks.  A month later I moved, thousands of dollars in debt but with her promise that she'd pay me back.  She never did pay me back, fully or in a timely fashion, and I wound up going through bankruptcy because I counted on that money and her.  Never again - on all counts.

And then there's the Bush administration....

only if you come back from Kryptonite with mounds of gold (or cash), clear up pollution, end the war in Iraq, stop starvation, end crime and wear pink while doing it. :)
