I just have to say that this is the most eloquent, intelligent and deep-thinking group of people (with very few exceptions), that I have ever had the pleasure of conversing with.

And who would have thunk......that one would find this in a forum called "The Erotic Review"?

Just kinda blows me away.........but nicely blows me away :)

Did I come off as being condescending, or am I just being gun-shy.  I only meant to sincerely compliment.

I was just thinking this, so I thought it would be kinda nice to say it.

Ya know, it's tough to communicate in this medium without the visual clues of communication.  It's sooooo easy for your intentions to get misunderstood.

I have absolutely no idea if you are giving me a sarcastic jab or just playing with me..........probably both, no?

Is it so surprising that Satyrists & Nymphos are also intelligent, creative and erudite?.

I have been exposed to more dialogue here that has forced me to look at my own ideas and preconceptions than ever before.  You know..........those flashes of insight that causes light bulbs to go off.  And I truly thank you for that.

And yes, I was surprised that I got it here to the degree that I did.  Never got it to this extent with conversations with family, friends, collage buddies or within the work environment.  But here.  Take that as a compliment for whatever it's worth.

One of the light bulbs that went off is that I came in here as a stranger to a group of people that have been conversing for years and began to stir up a bunch of shit.  I'm kind of mischievous that way....part of my nature.....I guess, and I did it here because I felt real comfortable, even with some of the flak I got.

But now it sounds like it might be time to leave and take a rest for awhile.  Got the definite feeling from many of you that I have overstayed my welcome.

So again......thank you for your input and debate......I've truly enjoyed it......

idea to give it a rest for a while.  The pot does occasionally need to be stirred here.  If you stir the pot too often or too vigorously you can turn it into a steaming cauldron which is probably not good.  Usually the board offers variety.  It serves as a pleasant information exchange, a joke, some light hearted banner and ocassionally as the forum for a heated debate.  However if you create one heated exchange after another you may tend to destroy the harmony on the board and create a rancorous atmosphere.

anyone's computer will lock up if they fail to reply to your posts, or to one of the other member's replies.

A couple of people have made a few comments about the quantity of your posts.  Some of the comments were just meant to be nasty, and others seem to have been meant as constructive.

The important point is that no one has to reply to your posts...or for THAT matter, even READ them.  Go ahead, get your spoon out, and stir the pot.  If I see a post of yours that I think is frivolous, I won't get involved.  If, on the other hand, one of your posts -- or a reply to one of your posts -- intrigues me, I'll step up.

Some of your recent stuff, while it didn't seem to have been intended to do so, gave rise a number of tangential threads that, at least IMHO, turned out to be thought provoking, informative, and to an extent, a public service.

Stick around.

The sharing of differing views, idea's and the like.  Why should one be surprised at the insight one can garner here on subject matters that tend to be taboo in mainstream society?

There is nothing wrong, IMHO, with the posts you made.  If they were all that redundant, then I do not think the threads would have been as lengthy as they were.  People were obviously impassioned by them.  Given the melting pot of individuals, one has to expect comment from some that are tantamount to childish temper tantrums.  Some have matured in differing ways-LOL!

But, as much as one may like serious debate, we do like to have fun also and enjoy the light banter between one another. I agree that it is sometimes hard to discern whether someone is stating something in jest or not, but one has to keep an open mind and not take things to seriously.  It keeps an even balance and that is important to the whole of the board.

I would welcome more insightful debate from you, but would also advise you to take a step back and enjoy the other elements this board has to offer.  After all, we are not all retired and couldn't possibly keep up with it all on a daily basis-LOL! You have not overstayed your welcome and do think the contrary is true and look forward to your continuing posts of all manners.

perfectly fine for you to voice your own opinion.

I am one of those who used to post extensively on various subjects.  It is because of the increasingly limited amount of time I could spend here that I resist my urge to response to many interesting posts nowadays.

From time to time, especially in the general board, I have engaged with others about topics outside of the main concern of most TER members, e.g. my opinions about the Iraqi war, WWII history, etc.  I am quite sure many members here are sick of me during that time.

The anonymity afforded in TER board and the kinship hobbyists felt about one another often free one from the normal social constraint about voicing one's true feelings.

Take care, enjoy the holiday weekend and don't forget to have fun with some beautiful ladies. :-)

Happy hobbying.

Hey GC,

Even though you're a Giants fan, your posts never annoyed me.  Aside from the help you've given freely in the identification of possible ROBs & B/S gals, I've found what you've said about other subjects, such as those you've mentioned, to be well-reasoned & presented even-handedly.

Like so many other words & idoims in this wonderful language we call English, the term "PC" means different things to different people.  For me the phrase has taken on a usually negative connotation.  There are many terms now in usage(which I won't go into for concern that some might be offended by their mention LOL) & frankly I don't even understand why in many cases.

I think that often too many people are too quick to take offense.  In some cases it's mostly nothing more than their individual attempt to reinforce views which they already held.  We see only that which we expect to see & hear only that which we expect to hear.  So "yes" I'm of the opinion many really are overly concerned.

I'm one who generally (& I didn't say always) tries to voice my opinion in a reasonable & non-attacking manner.  In short the terms used once were either 'polite' or 'civil.'  However that runs the risk, if it can be called that, of leaving the inpression that there is a lack of real belief or conviction in  thoughts.  In short, there are times when the point is better made by simply calling a 'spade a spade' rather than something else...using 'street lingo' if necessary, & being nothing else but blunt.  There are times when 'less is more' even though I frequently seem to forget that & don't keep it  mind.

How to bridge the gap as you've termed it, is to me very elusive.  Is it even possible without compromising what is really felt?  On this board at least there is the additional concern that the perception of what's written could be interpreted much diffently than if the same thing were to be said in person.  There's no opportunity to see a facial expression or hear a tone of voice with the written word.  The only way here that we are privvy to any sort of such insight is if we are familiar with what the poster has said on a variety of subjects in the past.

But the bottom line is that the only way not to risk offending or angering at least some people is to say nothing.  Anyone who posts with any frequency at all is going to find there are generally those of like mind & enjoy the reads, those who dislike, & those who are indifferent.  IMO we should never be concerned with the degree of popular acceptance of our views...only that they are representative of our real feelings.  Ageement with another's views should never be a requirement for them being respected..only the honesty of them.  So when something comes to mind, simply say it & let others sort it out.

Geez...did I say 'less was more?'  Violated that principle didn't I??

But for you & everyone else...have a marvelous weekend!

I think PC can involve intent as much as anything else.  If what I'm saying isn't intended to hurt or offend, I sometimes don't realize that it still might.

I can't stop and think about all the ramifications of everything I say or write.  It's just not practical.  Besides, applying a PC filter to every word that leaves my mouth or my PC (here, it means, "computer") would often water down my ideas.

Bottom line...I try to be couteous.  I try not to say hurtful things (unless there's just no other option).  If someone is offended by what I say, I see that as THEIR problem.

I hope I haven't offended anyone.

strident stance of the PC proponent, the accusatory tone towards non-followers (in college campus) and the coercive nature of their tactics (banning of use of the word ‘foreign’ in CNN, listing words not to be used by reporters in LA Times, etc.) deprive a speaker/writer effective use of language to express a specific POV.

Descriptions blurred and contrast diffused.  Passions are being hindered or obscured by flowery and diplomatic languages.  Sometimes the desire to avoid unpleasant outbursts or objections made one acquiesced to things one disagreed with.  I have often fallen into that trap.  It is something I constantly guard against.  (Reading through Robert Caro’s masterpiece of LBJ, “Master of the Senate”, makes me understand more about the power of persuasion, the reading of men and the subtle tactics of wearing down an opponent.)

Greywolf is right about the occasional need to use unvarnished language to expose the truth and advance an argument.  It is a bit harder and probably unwise for someone like you, working in this customer service business, to take that stand though.

With your great sense of humor (the response to Iwien is simply brilliant!) and diplomatic prose, you have deftly navigated the sometimes treacherous landscape of discussion boards without backing away from your core beliefs.

It would be hard to make a different or present a strong argument without making waves or offending someone.  My way is to stick to my principles with an open mind, argue with the idea, back them up with facts and logic, but try hard to avoid personalize the issue or question the motives of others.

Time to catch my flight to SF.  Take care, and have a fun holiday weekend.
