Virus...Question....Help!

Okay, I am well aware of this virus, but am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same difficulties I am and/or if there is a solution.

I have been unable to answer emails for two days now.  Today a record 438 viruses have been in my email box and my system keeps crashing from the sheer volume.  My delete key is burning and the downloads are still going on today.  A five minute task in the morning is becoming a whole day ordeal.

I have also tried to get to my site to answer emails through there, but I can't get to it, it freezes.

Are you experiencing the same problem due to sheer volume?  Is there a solution I don't know about.  Is your virus protection program getting annoying, even though it is there to help?  Should I just shoot myself now?

I have been having the same difficulty.  I had to go to my zone alarm and allow all messages just to unfreeze it.  It worked for me and then I went back and clicked the block all with attachments again.  It's been running rather smooth for me again.

The volume from the latest mail worm has been extremely high.  Our mail relay/filter has been so innodated, that it has been taking about 1 hour for legit emails to be processed today alone.  Most of my Gov't client are also experiencing the same levels of congestion. My advice is to make sure your anti-virus is up to date.  I'll email you using the TER email with more info.

OOPS my membership has expire...never mind.  It sounds like your provider (ISP...not otherwise :)) does not have anti-virus for their mailserver.  Or if they do, they are not running it due to volume.  Unfortunately, I would bet you are using POP to get your mail.  The only way to clear you mail spool is to have your ISP do it for you (and delete all your messages in the process) or download the message and let your  anti-virus clean it up.  A robust mail client like Eudora should handle that volume of traffic, assuming your computer is reasonable modern (last 3 years).  Still, that volume of messages will be slow.  If you are on dialup, it will be even worse.  If you are on Dialup, Eudora has an option to only download the header information from the email server.  That way you are not downloading the body of the message (I.E. the virus), and things will move alittle faster.  Once you have all the headers, you can pick the messages you want to delete without downloading the entire message.  The next time you check mail, Eudora will delete the messages.

You live in my area, so if you would like, I will be happy to give you a call.  I could give you better information if I had a little more to go on.

I really do appreciate all that took the time to contact me.  It is very much appreciated and will take the steps advised.  It is comforting in an odd sense that I am not alone!!!

Thanks Again!

Some months ago, I followed the advice of a friend who is an IT professional by installing both Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Personal Firewall.  The combination has kept my computer (and my friend tells me all those of his clients) trouble free during this recent round of worms and viruses.  Norton's Anti-Virus does automatic udpates without my having to do anything.  Norton's Firewall has the added advanced in that it can be configured to block pop-up ads.  I have not noticed any slowdown when running these programs, including on my old notebook that has a dial-up connection. I think the comination sells for $79.00 at Fry's; I recommend them.
