Okay, since we're counting: I've been sick for three months. Geesh! This is starting to sound like a hypochondriac fest. Sorry, just kidding. Actually, I feel everyone's pain. I hate feeling ill. Luckily for me, it's almost over (I hope).

Hey, you guys get feeling better soon. I can be like a mother at times -- overprotecting her young.

Hugs, kisses and prayers,
Ciara

Would you care to enlighten us as to what exactly you mean by "those same losses of rights that gays do"?

I wanted to answer your question.

Yes there are some rights\priveleges that singles miss out on that are reserved for married people and now that gays via marriage are pressuring for.
I've never been married but it is my understanding that married couples receive tax benefits and savings from their personal income taxes when filed jointly.
Married couples are allowed to sell their primary residence every 5 years and are exempt from paying taxes on the first $500,000. As a single I only get a $250,000 exemption.

Those are two off the top of my head.
I may choose not to marry due to the high percentage of divorce and the way that divorce laws are heavly in favor of the woman. I don't want to risk losing 1\2 of my fortune. I shouldn't be penalized by not receiving all of my potential exemptions if I am not married. I still spend like a married man, (maybe more) on my girlfriend. I still maintain a relationship with a lady, I should receive the same benefits that gay couples are trying to achieve.
Gays, individually or married already have individual rights as an American citizens, just as I do. I am against fincancial exceptions being made for them unless those same exceptions\exemptions are given to me.

Sicker than the gay folk you hate. They're definitely healthier.

But thanks for trying to "lighten the mood" with another stupid stunt.

I DON'T HATE GAY PEOPLE, I SIMPLY OPPOSE LEGALIZING GAY MARRIAGE.  YOU SAY I AM SICKER THAN THE GAY PEOPLE I HATE!!  NOW I COULD TURN RIGHT AROUND AND CALL YOU ANY NUMBER OF NAMES AND YOU WOULD CALL ME NAMES AND IT WOULD SPIRAL INTO THE YOUR MOTHER, NO YOUR MOTHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL YARD FIGHT!!
  THAT ISN'T MY STYLE.

That you can't resist using capital lock or an expletive followed by (!!) on your keyboard.

Whoops, my bad, you don't hobby. Maybe a free sponge bath? A couple of chocolates and a good night kiss while I tuck you in bed? Lol.

Netmichelle,
Sorry but I had to get my point through to him.  In an earlier string he just  came out of nowhere and telling me how Im a bigot and probably hate homos and just started ranting for no reason at all.  All I posted was a joke that had nothing to do with the topic at hand.
This time I post something as a joke and he comes out of nowhere again and says Im probably sicker than the homos I hate.
Now if he can show me where I said I hate gay people that would be one thing.  He just assumes and starts calling me a racist bigot.
Its really simple I tried to explain to him that I respect his views on gay marriage and he should have the courtesy to respect people who do not agree with him.  I don't call people liberal commies for supporting gay marriage.  I have my reasons as you and others have yours.
Well you are right I don't hobby so I will not hold you to your end of the bargain:):)  The rest sounds very tempting but I know you are just teasing me so I can't hold you to that either:)

How is that a bet when you know I don't hobby??  If I know you are allergic to chocolate and I offer to buy you chocolate dessert for the rest of your life as a bet then thats a hat trick, not a bet:):) A bet has to be something that if I win I can hold you to, and if I lose you can hold me to.  Its only fair, it goes both ways.    Did you really think I wouldn't catch that?:)

I read your reason why you don't hobby. It's a freebie, me taking on one for the team, lol, and this way, if you are indeed not le, you keep your job. You could post a review for me, as I need a new one. Besides, its worth not seeing your caps for a month. Lol, bet is on buddy....hehe

Netmichelle,
I still don't get it.  I'm not le, but whether you believe it or not is up to you.  Now how could I post a review if I don't engage in a session??  Come on, you gotta do better than that:):)
Just to be nice I'll stop posting in caps for now.  It's not a promise though.
Do you just not like me posting in caps, or from anyone in general??  You know if you don't like caps just from me, my feeling would be really hurt:):)  I am a very sensetive person:)

I read your reason why you don't hobby. It's a freebie, me taking on one for the team, lol, and this way, if you are indeed not le, you keep your job. You could post a review for me, as I need a new one. Besides, its worth not seeing your caps for a month. Lol, bet is on buddy....hehe

> He just assumes and starts calling me a racist bigot.

Show me where I said you were a 'racist' ... well guess what, you can't because I never said you were a racist ... now why would you say such a thing if I didn't actually say it? heh?

FYI, the most racist people I ever met were city cops. And they also hate fags!

emeraldvodka2999 reads

OneAssholeDeservesAnother,
Yes, you are right you didn't say racist and that is my mistake.  In a previous post you said I probably agree with that idiotic bigot james, which to meant you thought I am racist.
You again said I was sicker than the gay folk I hate earlier in this string.  And now again you say the most racist people you met were city cops, and they also hate fags.
Now I can't do anything to convince you I'm not a cop.  I could deny it all I want but you don't have to believe me so thats a moot issue.
Honestly I would like to know why you think I hate gay people.
I admitted I made a mistake by saying you called me a racist.  I would really love to know where I said I hate gay people, and if not then why do you keep insisting I do.

You veer off-topic to yell out at the top of your lungs that gay marriange is "sickening and abhorrant" and now you have the fucking audacity to claim you never said anything to suggest you hate gay people???

Regardless of whether you're LE or not ... it's clear you are a racist fag-hater just the same!

But then someone with your political views would have to be.

emeraldvodka3028 reads

OneAssholeDeservesAnother,
You are really turning me on:):)  I feel all that anger and passion just bottled up inside you and I would love to help you release it baby. I want you here and now you hot stud, just take me baby and do with me what you like:):)

What a pathetic coward you are. Is that all you have to say this time? Instead of addressing the issue (of you being a bigot) you make jokes? Rather stupid silly jokes too, like the mentality of a school boy who's been backed into a corner. There's no intelligent thoughtful response to give so now you punt by making light of the situation. What, you mean you're not even going to call me an "immoral liberal commie gay lover damned to hell?"

But don't take all this too personally.  You're just the latest  symptom of a disease that descended on this board a while back. And the reason why members who I respect have stopped posting here. So don't despair. In fact chin up, you're part of the New Order of TER!

OneAssholeDeservesAnother,
You are not worthy of having an intelligent conversation with.  Anyone whose intellectually capacity reasons equating people as racist bigots for simply disagreeing with an act is frankly ruled by emotion that doesn't deserve reciprocating through dialogue of mutual respect and patient reasoning.

I once heard, "you can counter and emotional arugment with a logical one."
That statememnt must have been made with foresight and understanding that people such as yourselves exist.

Free pussy, free pussy, free pussy
Get it? Let's see who wins. No more flirting, you hurt my feelings once, don't do it again! LOL.

"idiotic bigot james"?

I assume you're not endorsing that view, but OneAssholeDeservesAnother's responsive post demonstrates that he ended his name about five syllables too late.

It's funny how the far Left always has to resort to the same slanders.  This chucklehead wants to call me racist, even though that's not the issue.  He wants to call me a bigot, even though I doubt that he knows what it means (though if it means judging people by their actions, color me a "bigot").  He says I hate, though I'd be perfectly willing to ignore homos ... if they'd just do me the courtesy of keeping their perversions to themselves.

And "idiotic"?  I'm happy to stack up my IQ and academic record against virtually anyone.

Ain't anonymity a wonderful thing?

Your own stated positions certainly establish you as one, although we'll need to take you at your word about being well educated.   Heck, George Dumbya Bush graduated (albeit just barely) from Yale undergrad and Harvard Business School, and he's firmly established that he's an idiot, so there's a prime example.  And those schools are, by reputation, just about the equal of the places I graduated from, despite Yale and Harvard having dropped their standards to let Dumbya in as a legacy admission (all the top schools do this - My own undergraduate alma mater did the same to let in JFK Jr., and my Grad school actually claims Antonin Scalia as a "distinguished" alumni, his dubious ethics notwithstanding.)

And yes James, if you believe in descriminating against people because of their private actions with other consenting adults, you are certainly a bigot.

If gay marriage is legalized, then it's marriage.  The government bestows certain tax benefits on married couples.  Gayness doesn't enter into it.

If you choose not to marry, that's fine, but don't whine because you aren't getting the same benefits as married couples -- gay or not.  If you want the financial benefits of being married, then get married.  At least you have the option of marrying the one you love, whereas gays generally do not.

Personally, I believe the government should get out of the marriage business, and allow every adult to specify one significant other for tax, insurance, and other legal/financial purposes.

dingsbums3725 reads

A bigamist could also choose one significant other for tax, insurance, and other legal/financial purposes.  They can do so now (except for gay bigamists, of course).

How is that discriminatory?

dingsbums3653 reads

You're really grasping at straws here.  So if the government decided to get out of the marriage business, and allows all adults to designate one significant other for tax/legal/insurance purposes, you're saying that some should be able to designate two instead?   That wouldn't be fair, would it?

If you own ten houses, should you get to deduct the interest on ten mortgage payments?

See, thats the thing. People are not realizing there are TWO distinct issues here, not just one.
San Francisco gay and lesbian couples are being married in civil ceremonies. This is just one aspect of it, and deals with the issues raised concerning equal rights, protections under the law, etc etc ad naseum.
The issue as it is being portrayed by the Christian Wrong wing and their poster boy George the Usurper is one of religious abomination using a passage from the Old Testament. Leviticus 18:22 as interpreted by the King James translation states "You shall not lie with men as with women. It is abomination."

First of all, its an inaccurate translation of the original text, as is much of the King James, a collection rife with inaccuracies, misconceptions, outright fabrications and distortions from the original languages of the Torah. The King James version of the bible is simply one of the first, and certainly the most heralded piece of Revisionist Historical fiction you or I will ever read.
Secondly, if you study the Torah as it was written, in its original languages of ancient Hebrew and Aramaic, you will find the passage to have been taken completely out of context. Not only does it refer to a specific idolatrous fertility rite, it also states later in the text that "we are not bound by these commands today".The larger portion of the chapter deals with issues specifically involving idolatry and the practice of polytheism, some of the rituals of which involved (surprise surprise) male fertility and their display thereof. Indeed, the passage has also been translated as being an admonition that men are not to engage in ritual activities while lying on the bed of a woman. Makes a big difference, doesn't it!

You won't find that in the King James version.

The truth is, the Bible condones polygamy as well as the subjugation of women as property; ideas which fit very well into the male-dominated society of King James era. The original reasons for the institution of marriage were to establish ownership of the female by her husband.
The BIGGER issue in todays America, is one of separation of Church and State. Refusal to alow gays and lesbians to marry so they might enjoy the legal benefits of marital status is simply the smokescreen for Bush to to breach once and for all, the dividing line between church and state using his constitutional amendment that marriage be between man and woman only, a statement that has its roots in a fabricated translation of the Torah, and no place at all in today's society.

"Abomination". God (Jesus) also found Divorce to be an abomination but somehow that institution or practice has been allowed to exist and flourish.
Bottom line: This whole Gay marriage thing is an example of
"It's All About The Money".  From work bennifits to probate it stands to open up a huge can of worms for the lawyers to fightover and the insurance companys to lose money over.

Just for the record...

You're correct about the 250,000 vs. 500,000 for a married couple, but you can actually sell a home every two years, not five, and get the benefit.

http://www.irs.gov/publications/p523/ar02.html#d0e1572

You cite two.  I know that one is inaccurate.

Actually, there is no tax benefit.  To the contrary, there is a "marriage penalty" that GWB has advocated ending.

I don't know about your second one, though I oppose all capital gains taxes as a matter of principle, making the issue of gay so-called "marriage" irrelevant to the issue.

And, as a later poster notes, gays have the same rights as heteros.  All of us are permitted to marry ... so long as we marry a member of the opposite sex.

The right to have legal stewardship over the affairs of a dying or incapacitated lover who is not competent to sign a power of attorney.

The right to be treated as a beneficiary as a matter of course when a lover dies intestate.

There are plenty of others.
