I was so glad to see this post - and how well put! For some reason, I found it soothing; calming (in regard to your second paragraph.)
It's just dating, people - get real and get on with something else a lot more important and life threatening. This whole SD interest in the Lifestyle and the prevention thereof is something I'm fed up with!
Thanks for your post and putting things in the 'right' perspective.

Anyone read this on MSNBC, Streetwalkers of Cyberspace, it is in the Technology and Science Section today.

Woman getting empowered.

Actually, for poor Nancy of Nebraska, it was about getting arrested!

Although, I must say, I'd have been suspicious of a guy who pulls up in a Lear jet, then offers me Asti Spumante in the limo!  Mumm's at least!  I bet he wasn't wearing decent shoes either!

And I'm also irked at how we all get lumped in with "slavery".  Surely us independent, (or just independent minded,) gals aren't all that small of a minority in this continent?

These are a series of ad hoc arguments, thrown together with only one purpose in mind: to condemn prostitution, no matter what.

If one explains to John Q. Citizens how services and transactions occur for participants on these boards, most might tend to say, "..Gee, that's not so bad. Why is it criminalized?.."

So to make their argument, they have to group it together with street prostitution, slavery, child prostitution and pornography, drug dealing etc. As in, cyber-prostitution may not be so bad, but it is a "gateway" activity leading to these real crimes.

Heaven help us, when they use the argument that cyber-sex  supports terrorism. Already, the Feds are attempting to tie drug dealing with terrorism, with narcodollars funding these activities. Actually, a much better case can be made that identity theft funds terrorism, since it is cheaper, faster and the penalties are almost nonexistent.
