Thanks for the links Singleton. It is truely sad.

There was a disturbing pictorial in the most recent Nat'l Geographic on slavery in the world...of course Eastern European women being 'sold' into prostitution i was shown (as discussed in an earlier thred) and although they left out Asians, I now wonder about seeing someone who is not independent and from Eastern Europe or Asian.  Am I making too general a conclusion?  Can I safely assume that independents are minimally not being forced by some pimp or mafioso into this?  Have other providers who work(ed) with agencies gotten any sense of coercion of some of the women?   I can add that I would NEVER see a 'provider' in a country like Thailand (as tempting as it might be) for precisely this reason.

Xeno, there is still plenty of exsisting forms of slavery present troughout the world. While i didn't see the N.G issue, it is great that they are showing some insight to this tragedy, regardless of the ethnicity of the enslaved.

I omitted asian women from sex slavery in our past thread because eastern european women have surpassed asian women in demand. Apparently the whites are more desirable then the asians. Either way it is tragic that people are enslaved in this day in age.

Another form of slavery is also happening, with the American government pushing for globalization, and a one world economy,  we are creating a different form of slavery. We are importing workers from overseas to replace our workers. the reason being; they work for cheap, happily also. they don't receive healthcare benefits. This is a modern day form of slavery, exploiting 3rd world labor both here and abroad to maximize profits.

Yes the export of labor was also covered...I try to avoid buying things made by these companies.  My eyes are certainly open but then again I wonder about the AMPs in particular and the exoctic Eastern Europeans that one sees on sites here in the US.  By the way, type in Russian Wife and look what comes up...looks like a brisk business here.

many of the low to mid-end brothels in Europe are staffed (effectively) by the white slave trade, mostly Eastern European girls from impoverished ex-Soviet-Bloc countries (like Yugoslavia and the Ukraine) who've been hustled and "sold" into the sex industry by the Russian Mob (they even import girls here to the US to work in the adult industry).  they have their passports held and their relatives back home threatened to keep them in check and live the "life" of a literal sex slave (the worst you can imagine)

as with other things in our society that are too ugly to bear, this issue is not talked about much and often refuted as sensationalist urban lore ... the reality of it is truly sad and ugly

Thanks for the links Singleton. It is truely sad.

This has been going on for years, and I recall even 15 years ago hearing about it in church and various groups trying to do something about it; been reading about it for many years in women's magazines, too.

Your post is exact, and right to the point. Horrifying.

Imagine you're an evil overlord, content to enslave people and use them as objects for your profit.  Would you have any particular bias toward prostitution?  There are plenty of ways to harness a person's abilities for your selfish ends, and you might as well use each in the most profitable manner.  Some you will force into prostition, some you will force to work in your shoe factory, and some you will force to work with hazardous chemicals, etc.

Ok, snap out of thinking like an evil overlord.  It isn't good to think in those terms for too long.

The point is, whenever you economically transact IN ANY MANNER in or with a society that doesn't have strong protections against slavery, there is risk that you are supporting slavery.  Prostitution is not a special case.  These societies have bigger problems than just the brothels.  If you're concerned about providers in Thailand, you might want to think about what you would be doing in Thailand at all, unless you're there for the purpose of overthrowing the government (or otherwise working to advance civil rights).
