For me I prefer a woman who is cleanly shaven, it adds to the pleasure of performing DATY.  Maybe just a little hair above the pussy for appearance.  I once was with a woman who was cleanly shaven but had just a small amount of hair shaped into a V above the pussy, that was so cool.  I try to keep myself shaved but not totally smooth clean like some woman are.  Question is how do you providers prefer men to be shaved?  Would you be turned off/on by a man with no hair around his penis?  Obviously it is much easier to spot defects if no hair is present, I am sure that is some concern of providers.

I have mine the way you described, and would absolutely, most appreciately LOOOVE it if the gents would do some trim work! I enjoy being there, and don't like interuptions such as pulling hairs out of my mouth - what a way to disrupt the moments if I'm concentrating on hairs NOT going down my throat, or tickling and choking me!

I prefer the boys to be shaved, but definitely keep the area above the tool closely trimmed not bald. To me it looks unnatural to have no hair there at all, but very sexy to see a nicely maintained area.

I find myself in an interesting situation in regard to shaving myself.

As you suggest, I have let the hair grow in the "area above the tool", but for a different reason. My wife and I discovered that this little patch of hair tends to provide some stimulation for her. At first I shaved it all off, and she found that something was missing. After growing it back, she gets the feeling she did before I shaved.

The second issue relates to the inevitable stubble that is hard to totally get rid of (even with shaving every day.) No problem when I am with providers, as a condom covers most of the stubble that comes in contact with sensitive skin. But with my wife, uncovered, the stubble starts to irritate (if we happen to be taking our time.) Its always something.

Now, to completely change the subject, since most ladies I see are shaved, I find myself looking for ladies who have the natural look. Go figure.

I'm getting redness and irritation.  I kind of like the smooth feel on the tool, but dang, glad I didn't do it right before meeting a new date.  I've got irritation / little bumps all over the place.

Start off by using an electric razor, it makes for a much smoother transition to the straight edge.

I keep the top trim, shave the testicles, and pluck anything on Mr. Happy.  Plucking keeps new hairs growing back finer and smoother and seems to help a lot with the stubble problem.  Go easy with the plucking - it can hurt if you don't do it right!
