I read the thread you are referring to, but didn't comment since I'm nowhere near DC. But since you brought it here, I'll happily comment.

I'm honestly surprised given the number of reviews you have that this even needs to be explained to you. Simply put, contacting a client either by e-mail or by phone is absolutely bad form. It doesn't matter if the e-mail is secure or not. The point is, we don't KNOW for certain, and for that reason should NEVER e-mail out of the blue. Period.

Secondly, I don't know about any other provider, but I have a tendency to NOT keep a record of information like e-mail addresses and phone numbers. It shouldn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why that sort of information is best discarded after it is no longer useful.

Just my two cents, so take it for what its worth.

Was placed on the DC board.  It implies many hobbiests use open emails for their hobbying.

How many of you use emails that your SO, wife or boss have access to?

Even in the event some time passes do you use an email account and then later convert it to a "family" email account?

I would think the cell phone would be more of area where someone might get caught, since many of us do not have disposable cell phones.

and here are my observations. I don't keep "friends' email addy's and email my travel plans! I ONLY post! I have been in the business 2 years and have regulars in Dc...but not enough for me NOT to accept NEW "friends!"  BUT if I did, I PAY to advertise. Maybe her "regulars" rely on her posts/ads to announce her tours.

I have alot of respect for the atl mod in DC. He/she keeps everyone straight. Just like you guys have to keep things straight...:) E-mails, cell phones/records...etc!

Lord knows I’ve seen ladies do some very bazaar things. However at the end of the day, as long as she’s mad with desire for you (behind closed doors) who cares?

I have a website booking form which includes the option of being added to my mailing list. If my clients opt in, they take it upon themselves to give me a secure email. If someone has a death wish and gives me the family AOL account (which has happened) I try to detect it before I send anything at all... but really, this shouldn't be the provider's responsibility, should it?

When I tour, I send an email to previous clients before I advertise or post the tour, so they can have advance opportunity to book with me... I feel it's only fair and good business practice to reward my "frequent flyers."  Clients who have opted out of my list learn about my plans via my posts and ads, like everyone else.

Hobbyists who don't take their email addresses seriously can imperil providers, and providers should determine beforehand how their clients wish to be contacted, if at all.

I mean, really... isn't this Hobbying 101?

When I travel, I prefer to post on the board specific to where I will be visiting. Although there have been gentlemen who have requested an email notification of my itinerary, I am reluctant to keep them aprised via this medium of communication for the sole reason of privacy.

Email is not necessarily as secure as one might think. Although your primary intentions may have been to utilize an account for the sole purpose of hobbying, there are spyware programs out there that monitor the websites you visit as well as the keystrokes you make on the keyboard. If your wife or SO is suspicious of your extra-curricular activities, you may be surprised someday what they confront you with.

So the mere fact that this lady is being cognizant of individuals' livelihood outside the hobby conveys a level of professionalism and courtesy.

Kudos to her.

Play nicely and be safe ...

She sounds very professional, and those men who have seen her, are very lucky to be able to partake in her services.

In regards to the initial poster: go about your business, and get laid please! Let the lady go in peace.

And, presenting it in an untrue fashion……
The reply was made in your attack on me. I make notice of my visits to the DC area on a public board so that established clients are aware and can contact me.

The real issue is you have a problem with a provider that won’t see you.

As far as my business practices in the DC area, what I do has worked just fine for me and my established clients (*who also belong to TER*) for the past 3 years. I’d suggest you make an appointment with one of the providers willing to see you and work out some of your frustration and anger.

Taking it to the Nat’l board is further proof that you are pathetic.

In the DC area there are many hobbyists who take extra precautions on how they are involved in the hobby. If they prefer not to have emails sent or calls to their contact number- WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE THEIR BEHAVIOR?

Besides, I stand by my previous statement….. regardless of how much you push the issue I will NEVER see you.  ~T

I never mentioned you or your original post... I have no problem with you.

I only posted about EMAIL ACCOUNTS.

I am sorry if you feel so put upon, but this post never was about you.

So if everyone feels the need to flame go right ahead... but maybe if you take a minute and read the original post I made you will see it is exclusively about EMAIL accounts and nothing more.

As for your direct attacks on me, If it makes you feel better about yourself go right ahead I can take it.

YOU brought up a topic.."email accounts" and linked a thread(a-not-very-popular-one-I-might-add). I went to it and read all of it! The topic you "hoped" to discuss has been determined to be LAME! NOW..you would like US to believe you did not intend to "open a can of worms?" After reading the whole thread, I came to the conclusion you weren't happy. I linked to all reviews of ALL the posters and considered the content. I concluded it was "politics as usual,"
VIP squabble, button pushing, flame-retarded nonsense!

You are obviously an "established" hobbyist with more than 50 reviews to your handle.  So, the differing approaches to how a provider announces her schedule - both local and traveling - shouldn't surprise you.

This is a PERSONAL business that requires discretion.  Just because you have an anonymous email account doesn't mean everyone does - and if they DO have those types of accounts, they still don't want to receive emails from providers.  Nothing is full proof - and we all know that businesses are increasingly watching the Internet activity of employees.

I have some clients that I don't even HAVE an email address for because they do not wish to leave an electronic trail of any sort.  They wish for the utmost discretion, and I provide that. They keep an eye on my blog as well as the boards to know when I will be in their city.

I know Tori, who is the person this post was directed at - and know that she does the same for her high profile clients.  She contacts them in the manner in which they prefer.

Tori HAS seen new clients in DC in the past four months.  She has also seen some of my clients in a doubles situation which expands her clientele in DC.  Just because she won't accept you as a new client doesn't give you the right to say how she - or any other provider - can conduct business.

as well as advertising. Personally, I thought she was very sweet in saying she was sorry that she couldn't take on new clients during her recent visit to your town. However, she still needed to let her regulars know that she's coming to town. Most men I see don't want to be emailed unless they establish upfront that they want communication via email and for me to occasionally say "hello." So, her post was not a waste of time. Just move on and don't worry about what other people are doing.

Some people have way too much time on their hands. Wink!

Hugs,
ciara
