The people closest to me know the truth, but for those who don't, I say that I'm a personal assistant.
One of my friends was a personal assistant for a wealthy man and she did things such as check his mail and feed his pets when he was travelling, bookkeeping, bill paying, manage his personal/business schedule, make dinner reservations, tee times, attend charity functions, shopping for gifts for his friends and family, and the list goes on...
When they ask specifics, you can explain that he is rather wealthy and you do whatever needs to be done, except take your clothes off, of course.

Hello, All:

What do the other women do when they want to "work" while visiting friends and/or relatives who don't know what they do? How do you explain renting a car or being on your laptop or cell ph ringing, or leaving 'a few hrs'to the relatives ?

Fun to visit relatives but with 7-10 days off and just sitting around and not seeing new friends, it's sort of a predicament.

Since holidays are coming up, thought this would be a timely question.

Visiting with other friends while in town.  Need to drive to get to them.

They have been having some problems with whatever, so it's not appropriate to bring anyone.

Altho, I personally feel that sticking as close to the truth as possible, without actually telling the truth, is usually best.  So lead them to believe you've gotten a job consulting (in whatever field you like!) and you have clients to see. Thus it suddenly becomes perfectly acceptable to mention meetings with clients. Who'da thunk it? I actually say I'm a web designer, which I am, so that makes that easier. :)

And what a web designer you are lovey. B-day coming up...want to see my favorite wild child!

Just curious .... WHY would you do that?

Can't handle the relatives and have no other interests or [pun alert] hobbies?

Can't go 24 hours without sex?

Thinking that THIS man in THIS town may be "the one"?

Have such a bad [pun alert] crack habit that you HAVE to work 24/7?

Why not just have the time OFF?

He has a point.  I wondered the same thing myself.  Unless it's spending the 12 Days of Christmas and you can only afford one real vacation and that's not it.

I frequently travel to Florida to visit family, and when I'm meeting a provider, I simply tell my family that I promised a friend that I'd have lunch, or dinnr or a drink with them and that I'll e away for whatever amount of time I'm gone.  Always works fine.

Thank you, All, for your gracious and detailed responses to my little inquiry.

Have a wonderful day,
