It depends. Hate that :)

Now I'm speaking in general of men and women here because insofar as I know, the ladies on this board do not sell sex, at least I don't.

But, the risk is low to start with... at least for HIV, the risk is verrrrry low.  Please read this page summarizing a study done on 1000 gay men...
http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/oralsexqa.htm
Half of the 8 cases reported were caused by bleeding gums at the time of the oral sex... (DUH!) And of course, gay men are involved in a higher risk group to start with.

The risk goes up if you swallow semen or have semen in your mouth.

The risk goes up if you have gum problems... you don't want to brush or floss right before an encounter. Brush in the morning and rinse with listerine right before.

The risk goes up if there are obvious sores on the penis... again a pretty obvious one.

Make sure the toy you are playing with is clean and pretty, make sure your mouth is okey dokey, make sure that you do not swallow semen or get semen in your mouth (it's amazing how you can make them THINK you did, when you don't at all!), and the risk is very low. I think the biggest risks of picking up diseases from giving oral sex are herpes/genital warts, and with those, generally speaking, there are pretty obvious signs.

And that is a great site you found, I love that one!

The last few posts have been in regards to guys getting STD's from oral sex and providers getting STD's from giving oral sex.  I know it may be lower than having unprotected sex, but I wonder what the chances are of the provider getting STD's from a client giving oral sex on her?  Any thoughts from the professional doctors/nurses out there?

Welcome back! I missed you.

nice, intelligent post nicole. one small point: there is no evidence that swallowing semen increases the risk for contracting disease. between enzymes in your saliva and acids in your stomach, a virus doesn't stand much of a chance. your digestive system is a powerful barrier. check out the related q&a at "the body" site given above, or also at the cdc and/or nih websites. most agree that spitting or swallowing, followed by a mouth rinse, are relatively low risk. holding the semen in your mouth would be the worst choice.

don't get me wrong - of course, not getting it in your mouth in the first place carries zero risk :-) but you need to offer lessons in how to carry it off, as you mention above - somehow, in the middle of a lovely french or russian lesson, when my ladyfriend slams her mouth and eyes shut, turns her head away, tenses every muscle in her body and holds her breath... all i can think of is my ex-wife... and i just lose interest :-)

I'm *sneaky* about it... :)
And I know that for me it would be a huge turn off if I were a guy and had a lady react that way. I think it just takes timing and caring... but you hafta do your part too! Some of you guys are ummmm... silent shooters, so to speak. Let us know so we can be ready! LOL! :)
