Why would a dozen ladies line up like cattle to date/be courted by/marry a man they don't know from adam?

1. exposure (they are all aspiring actresses)
2. they are bored as shit
3. they are from small towns; all the locals are rednecks
4. they assume he's going to support them and if he doesn't they'll retaliate through bad press.
5. they had a black dress in the closet and needed to wear it somwhere
6. their mom applied for them
7. they are all psychopaths
8. there is a rumor the Bachelor was Ron Jeremy's stunt double

A guy friend of mine and I were sitting around and watching the show this week and he said "that guy must be rich". I said "you don't know that". His reply "This isn't 'who wants to marry a poor slob.'

to watch network crap again. Animal Planet, Discover, History, Travel - there's always something interesting on - and it's (at least in LA) significantly cheaper than cable.

I think you're friend is right about the money. The first bachelor
was a management consultant with a well known firm. A friend of mine is in that business (thinks he met the guy at a party in Boston) and guessimates that he was making over $200k/yr (in SF that's not a ton but it's pretty damned good).

I think these women have bought into the 'You Can Have It All!' nonsense. They want a guy with looks, money, status - the whole nine yards. Their parents told them how 'special they were when they were growing up and have been told by their girlfriends how hot they are and that they shouldn't 'settle'. And I'm sure they all think 'All The Good Ones Are Taken'.

People will do far worse just for the opportunity of grabbing 15 minutes of fame (even if that 15 minutes is spent in front of the nation debasing yourself)

To me, almost all single women are spoiled these days, they are all out looking for hunky, rich, Mr. PERFECT!!If you can get a date, you have about 30 seconds to make a good impression, that seems to be how long most women these days take to decide if you are boyfriend material or not.

So what else is new and when in the past did you feel it was any different than it is today? Just curious.

You left out the most reasonable explanation.  They are stupid losers.  In every population at least 5% will be moronic fools.  Women are no exception.  These women clearly feel that they can get on TV, have a free trip somewhere and the guy just might be nice & rich.  Beats hanging out at the local singles bar waiting to get hit on.  The fact that the guy is also a loser just like them and that they are making fools out of themselves has never occured to them.  In fact, they deserve each other, and it raises some questions about the richness of your life if you are watching this show.  Call up a provider and get a real experience.

Well, the ones that didn't get the flower cried. At scenes from upcoming episodes? It looks like many of the woman fall in love with him and he can only pick one so some get rejected and they are crying because their hearts are broken. Maybe you shouldn't enter a competition with 15 other Ford Model horses. The guy must be on a real ego trip. He doesn't look like much to me. Ken doll. Prim and proper. No ass play. No last minute trips. All pomp and circumstance. Put a "bad boy" in that room and he'd be taking them all, at least when the camera stops rolling. The girls look like deer lined up for slaughter. Don't anyone tell them they gained a pound.

And for the guy that commented that women these days size men up in about 15 minutes. Man, you size us up at first glance. If we weigh too much or our hair isn't the right color, we might as well not even open our mouths. It's definitely the same on this end. At least you get 14 minutes more.

A few months ago I joined Matchmaker Los Angeles (I am no longer a member), and i meet a few nice women down to earth. The biggest problem with MM was reading the essays. They all resembled the same essay. These women between late 20s to early 40s, all looking for this magical perfect guy, that only exist on movies. Here below as an examplee of an essay, but be aware that at least 90% of all essays resemble the one below.I think it's ridiclous to write anything like that considering tha these women are no longer teenagers but mature women.  


" Iam looking for someone with self-awareness, self-motivation, a student of life.  I want to meet a personally laid back, yet professionally assertive man - (not BOY), who takes care of his body.  A man who is emotionally available, solid, takes himself seriously, and at the same time has the ability to laugh at himself. Someone who is spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically strong. A man who has dealt with and learned from emotional baggage, who is still able to see the good in others and has empathy for those around him. I do find a well dressed, stylish man both sexy and attractive. Someone beautiful, inside and out, tall (6’0”-6'4") charming, witty, very smart, business savvy, lean and strong, financially stable, yet unsatisfied enough to keep striving for more.  A traveler, adventurer, a socially capable being, a  great smile and good teeth. Not looking to casually date for the sake of dating- I am, whether realistic or not in this medium, looking for the "one".  Not a "harem" of men. I want the fairy tale, not a player. Attractive, fun, intelligent, spontaneous, adventurous, and an athlete. Not afraid to take risks, great at his career, playful,affectionate, romantic, love hanging outside in the sun, just as much at night on the town. Someone successful, spiritual, someone who can go in the country 3 days take a bath then go to a black tie event, witty, real, fun loving,high testosterone, and  rugged good look"

I had the exact same experience.  I wasn't able to find a match because no one was looking for:

Back to the Bachelor - I think the guy has it made.  I do feel pretty sorry for the gals.  I'm actually embarrased for them.  I just can't think of why they would actually want to go through it - except for the 15 minutes of fame.  Certainly, not really to get married!
