I recently heard in certain cultures, the mother would have sex with the son, entering adolescence, to make life a little easier and comfortable for him.  And, this was completely accepted and normal.  I  was hoping someone would confirm this, but, I didn’t want to cast a negative shadow, based on something that may have been complete stupid and untrue …  there you have it!

I too read about some anthropologist who alledgedly went to some south seas island. While the she supposedly documentd the tribes and their incestous lifestyle.

I tried to find her writing on the subject... for purely cerebral purposes of course.....What?

Really?? You're getting a lot of negative emails on this.

Why, for Christ's sake??  You saw something on PBS and relayed the info......varying cultures behave differently to a different set of standards.  I don't condone what they do, but that's what they do.  Certain animals EAT their young.  I don't condone it but that's what they do.

What are you people afraid of?????  That we're going to be infected by the norms of another society.....??

GIVE ME A BREAK !!!!!!!

would the child be your half-sibling or your child?  If it's a boy, your Mom would have to service HIM in another thirteen years or so, too, wouldn't she?  What if she got pregnant again?  With ANOTHER boy?  And so on?  Wow.  Eventually, some poor soul with three webbed feet and flippers is going to be screwing a VERY old lady.

Have a nice day.

One of the fundamental fallacies in the type of approach used by Mead is the assumption that information about early human behavior can be interpolated from observations made of primitive cultures in existence today.  The error lies in the fact that our once primitive culture evolved into our present society (its flaws notwithstanding), whereas the observed culture has stagnated over the millennia.  What one is observing is therefore an aberration, and not a reasonable representation of our past.

I mean Margaret Mead had a nice rack and all, but she wasn't the anthroplogist many people think.
