Sexy - the article is good, but don't forget the religious heritage of many of our laws that have (and will continue to make) it hard for rational thought to prevail on this (and other related) subjects: Someone (I forget who at the moment) said that our Puritan ancestors outlawed bear-baiting "...not because it brought pain to the bears, but because it brought pleasure to the spectators!"
I was thinking "Why would someone want to be a cop who goes after escorts and their customers?" I'm assuming that this is duty which they volunteer for, and are not "assigned" to. So why would they especially want to do this kind of law enforcement?
Then it hit me. I think the reason for many of them is that when they "punish" an escort or her customer, they are really "punishing" that part of themselves that wants to be doing what the escort and her client are doing. It comes from a belief that recreational sex is morally wrong, and the discomfort of secretly and "shamefully" (in their minds) wanting to have that kind of sex themselves is relieved a little by punishing those who actually have that kind of sex.
I'm sorry but come on now. Recreational sex is morally wrong is the thinking behind this huh. Guess you don't have cop friends or the ones that you do know maybe whacked out. Heck I've heard of some cops getting freebies from street walkers and other free stuff like guns, knives, things they usually confiscate from dummies who get caught. Haven't you heard that cops have the best drugs around, lol. Heck if they legalized prostitution I bet cops would still get a discount. Damn, those guys get all kinds of discounts when their in uniform. Majority of cops isn't demented as telling itlikeitis has mentioned. But we all know that. Oh well, just typing this until the nyquil kicks in and hopefully get some sleep. Everyone have a great week and take care now. Buh Bye, Buh Bye.

OMG, just realized that I'm ranting on like that guy who posts things on the LA board I think when he's totaly wasted. What have I become. Noooooooooooooooooo.

...backed by a historically proven erroneous concept of legislating morality. Thus opening up a Pandora's Box of corruption, hypocracy and graft which intangles itself at every level of gov't. Ultimately costing millions to the taxpayer and distroyed livelyhoods and lives of providers and hobbyists alike. All with no positive tangable result for society in general. IMHO
Depending on the region of the country, you are partially correct. There are a number of cops (particularly in the Midwest) who pull this duty because they do think it's morally wrong and they want to stop it. Within this group are the ones you are referring to, but they are a minority.
The majority of cops though, from maybe 60% in the Midwest to near 100% in other parts of the country do it because its enjoyable duty. Some enjoy taunting the guys they bust, but most simply prefer hanging out in massage parlours and with escorts in a hotel than dealing with gangs. Who wouldn't?
In their defense, alot of them pull a stint in vice for about a year or two as a break from other, often more dangerous, duty. Let's keep in mind that despite how much we all disagree with them busting folks for prostitution (and drug use, and ???), alot of what they do is for all of our benefit.
Cops are people too, you know - really! And I've met some really nice, helpful ones. I don't know how you think you can read the minds of the thousands and thousands of people who are cops. Don't you think some of them are there just because it's the job they signed up for? I mean, whatever job it is that you do, are you there because you "believe" in it 100% in all respects? Or are there some aspects of it that you do just because it's part of your job as a whole?

Maybe we best not to make this precious forum a battlefield against cops. And focus on the policy makers. My guess is vice cops are doing what their department tell them to do. Some of the posts by liberalman in LA are great, articulate and rational.
I have the highest regard to cops who fights the real crimes taking risks with their lives. But for those hypocrites, I have no respect because we all more or less have been the victims of those hypocrites.
Believe or not, I like to live and work in places where there are enough cops. They make me feel safe. One day if this activity becomes legal, we all need the protection from police, including TER community. So why should we tease the vice cops? Let's be rational here and don't make anymore enemy.
Just my 2 cents and open for critique.
I don't wish to take away from your valid comments, but I do think law enforcement in Canada still has more of a "protect and serve" mentality than they do in most part of the US- particularly the large urban centers.
There are some undertandable reasons for the changes over the last 20 years or so- gangs, drugs, well-armed criminals etc.- but the bottom line is LE has become much more militaristic in it's approach than was even conceivable when I was a youth.
I used to have a neighbor who was vice in Long Beach. He was a strange guy in several ways who was doing a job he didn't really like (too seedy - he was busting gay guys in pub bathrooms). He said that cops become different than others - he looks at people in the eye and can immediately tell the bad guys from the good guys. What a way to go through life. Seems absent of all joy.
Dunkin' Donuts!!!
use the sex organ between the ears once in a while too. The study of people can be very interesting.
With a different perspective.
FWIW I don't believe that cops are "out to get" anyone, except in the sense that it is their job to arrest those who break the law.
