be anonymous, and you could tell 'your' story about the hobby and be able to communicate your opinions etc.; or to participate in an interview, who would you pick to be the Interviewer/Spokesperson in whatever media - for both

a) locally, in San Diego
b) nationally

Someone that you would choose because you feel they would give fair journalism, have integrity, be open to new ideas, easy to communicate with, etc, etc.

Thanks!

Nat'l: Charlie Rose or Barbara Walters...

Both do a good job of trying to dig without trying to ambush/trip up the interviewee.

Matt Lauwer(sp?), Stone Phillips or John Stossil(sp?) would be my choice for national news figures to interview me.

Chuck Henry for a Local (LA) news journalist

I think they might be able to be unbiased although what happens in the editing room is anyones guess

I`d pick Howard Stern. Aside from the interview. I might be lucky enough to be in his studio when some hottie is there.

The people doing the interviews usually don't write the questions.  The questions will not be friendly -- the audience will be interested in the edgy stuff.  The interviewers will NOT be supportive, they have an image to protect.

If you do this, decide what message you want to convey.  when you are asked a question, answer the question you WISH the interviewer would be asking, and leave it go at that.

Recognize you are facing risk by doing the interview at all...Harry

you to convey the message that you want to get across.  Focus on getting across that message, even if it means ignoring the loaded questions the interviewer asks in her efforts to get the "sound bite" from you that she wants.

Refuse to be "led" by the interviewer, and stay adamantly "on track" with your message.

and 'appeal' to the greater numbers, Howard Stern would not be a good candidate.

I think he would attract a large audience, but not the audience 'we' all need in order to promote in the right 'light'.

Otherwise, he'd be good.

This post is also for any journalists, local papers (Reader-type, too), magazines.

I thought about John Stassel, as I'm a big fan of his, but I'm not sure I would pick an investigative reporter...  Their instinct is to use questioning to get you off your guard and keep you there.

I find Matt Lauer and Katie Couric to both be horrible interviewers beacuse they are so prejudiced.  If they support your viewpoint, you'll come off looking good.  If not, they both work hard at trying to get you to trip up and admit some sinister intention.

Their "we don't like you" ambushes almost never works, and when it doesn't, their frustration with their inability to make you look bad becomes palpable, especially with Katie.  She gets squirmy in her chair if you're not coming off looking bad, and will end the interview early if you're actually coming across looking good.

I think there's a HUGE qualitative difference between the reporters that came up through legitimate journalism ranks (Frank Reynolds, John Chancellor, the list goes on and on) versus the ones that came up through entertainment-driven programming like Good Morning America and so forth.

Howard Stern's presumption for any woman in the sex trade (i.e., stripper, escort, etc.) is that she has been molested at an early age. Expect extensive questioning along these lines. From there, he would rapidly move to any lesbian stories you might be able to tell, how much money you make, whether you like anal sex etc. In the present incarnation of the show (pre-Janet Jackson exposure), he would then attempt to fondle you (needs a visual for his E! show). The show's become a real disappointment, over the days with Billy West and Jackie Martling.

Actually, the "sex" interviews for Stern may be coming to an end. His boss at Infinity/Viacom, Mel Karmazin, was raked over the coals in Congress for the Super Bowl/Janet Jackson expose, and has vowed to censor more heavily CBS/Infinity shows, including Stern's. Should be interesting to see what happens on Monday, when Stern returns from vacation.

As to your question on interviewing with the media - I think these may largely be prescriptions for disaster. Since they have total editorial control and the actual interview would never be on live, your words (through jump cuts, backgrounders, etc.) could be twisted to whatever unknown agenda the station has. Especially in the local markets where the actual interviewers/line producers have little clout, the editorial bias of the piece would probably be dictated by station policy.

And I despise Howard Stern anyway, and I'd knock him flat at any attempt to fondle! Fondle this, buddy - pow!

Your last paragraph - well, precisely - that's what we've just seen here locally, last Monday night. The provider who interviewed in that segment is looking at any ideas, suggestions, better people to contact, etc.

I was so unhappy with how Channel6 manipulated that whole interview that I think it would be best to contact someone with clout, and eliminate all this BS.

My 'part' and promise was to post these posts on the board/s and come up with other ideas.

LOL! Seeing you with Stern would indeed make for great "radio".

Interestingly, there is a rumor circulating in the Stern user groups for years that his current girl friend/part-time model was also an escort (i.e., she's referred to as bethoescort.com). Further, it's be rumored that, the night she first saw Stern, she was on a "date", dumped him midstream, and then immediately hooked-up with Stern.

Some credibility for this is that, although his girl friend (30+ yrs old) was suppose to be a full-time working model in N.Y. for years, there were almost no images of her work on the web. Yet, she's never suppose to have had any job other than modeling. Hmmm!

I worked in San Diego for several months
a few years ago.  Being so close to the border,
I did all my hobbying in Tijuana. For those of
us on a limited budget, TJ is the place to get the
most value.

And the ability to see large numbers of providers
and choose which ones to go to the hotel with
in a comfortable setting, with no LE issues,
makes TJ the preferred location for hobbying.

I'm sure San Diego has excellent providers north
of the border, and for those for whom money is not
a concern, I'm sure there are great opportunities.
But for me, when I visit the area, I go to la zona.
