I may take heat for saying this, BUT...I was driving home this evening from a friends house, and noticed there were streetwalkers on the street!  I have NEVER seen any in my town before (probably my blindness, as I havent gone looking), HOWEVER...If I were an escort, I would MUCH rather use the internet and screen than to jump into someone elses car!  What are they thinking!?!?!

Furthermore...I know this sounds funny, BUT, I do not equate the women on TER with that type of girl!  But rather, people whom I could relate MUCH better to!

Any thoughts?

In my experience I have come to realize the many differences between streetwalkers and providers who advertise via Internet or paper, etc...Streetwalkers mainly are doing what they do to score fast money to support their habits (namely drugs). They don't have the organizational skills, patience, or interest to actually advertise, set up appointments, etc...They want immediate money, then they want to score drugs.They walk the streets in desperation, they can't hold a normal job.There is no "GFE" experience, just quick, fast, and cheap. They are not looking for regular clients, just money to score their next hit. I do not even consider streetwalkers as part of the adult buisness. They are a nuisance and make the buisness look bad!They also draw drug dealers and pimps into neighborhoods. Another variation I have seen on the streetwalking scene is underaged girls who have a "boyfriend." These girls have trouble getting hired at more legit inhouses, saunas, dance clubs etc.. because most of the owners are not looking for "underage girl' trouble. The only place they can do their thing without an ID is on the street. I would recommend to all men who are thinking of trying the streets for their fun to think again. You will risk being ripped off, arrested, or statuatory rape charges. If lack of finances is leading to your decision to try a streetwalker instead of an upscale provider then rent some porno, or go to the local nudie bar and nurse your one drink for a few hours

Here's a question I've been dying to know for a while now. The internet has provided a fantastic way for escorts to screen clients, and for clients to shop for good escorts.  How did it work in the ancient days of say... 1992?  I know for sure that I wouldn't have joined this hobby without BBS services, review boards, and websites.  The chances of STD's, getting beat up by some scam artist's personal thug, or running into LE were too spooky.  Was there more dependence on Escort Services in the phone books?  How did good independents get the word out?  The published ads in my town are well known for harboring rip off artists... but in other locales, were they (are they?)prevalently used?

Another thing I think the internet MAY have done is reduced the evils of the pimp from the scene.  I may be wrong here, but my instincts say that with the exception of the driver/bodygaurd, the role of the pimp in high end escorts does not exist.  Is that perception or reality?  The modern courtesan seems to use the internet for some protection, and the ability to receive quick references is probably a huge benefit for the providers as well.  Again... just guessing, but I'd be curious to know if my huches about the industry are correct.

I was using the Escort listing of Yellow Pages in SF and Beverly Hills in the early 90s to meet escorts.

I used the height, measurement and weight to screen escorts.  I often request slender (105 - 115 lb), light skin, B - C cup, 5'4" to 5'8", 21 - 27 year old escorts.  Often the escort that showed up is more tan, 8 - 10 lb heavier, 2" shorter and 3 to 5 years older which will still be OK with me given my initial request.  However, from time to time, someone average looking or much older showed up and I have to give them $20 to send them away.

With agency outcall at that time, there was a lot of delay between the initial call and the time when the escort showed up (9pm call, 11pm at the door).  It is hard to send someone away after 11:30pm since there was often not enough time to find a replacement.

Since I used 4 star hotels for outcall, there is not a lot of screening done by agencies.  From time to time a new agency will send a second rated lady to meet me and if I rejected her, a better looking girl will show up.  Often the next time I called, they will say the pretty escort I met before was out of town and send someone less good looking as a substitute.

Actually, in 1990, I met Heidi Fleiss while she was working in an agency.  She was there in my hotel room in Century City as a substitue of a beautiful Swedish blonde I saw the day before.  The rate was $500/hr for 2 hr.  (just a little anecdote )

I can't speak for every city, but in the pre-internet days, most independent lady's in New York would advertise their services in Newspapers like the current versions of Screw, NY Sceen, etc. All of the publications by Joe Rose. Cities like NY were more liberal and hand other real quality of life problems than to mess with the high end lady's much. These lady's did not then as now need the services of a pimp. Pimps are more associated with your street level business. Agencies were no more reputable then than they are now. NY has always had its brothels. Back then the clients were more local neighborhood guys while now, because of the net, their clients may be world wide. I would say this environment was the norm in most liberal cities like San Fran, LA, Chicago etc. In conservative cities like those in the south, there was probably less of an appeal for an upscale lady to set up shop. There was probably more of a street level thing going on or the neighborhood hooker hangout where guys were sure to get luck for that was the only reason why a woman would be hanging out in such a place. In cities like this brothels were almost like institutions. Everyone new about them and they were part of the community. Not that I'm a historian on the subject or am that old to have seen these things first hand, but I see and hear things throughout my travels LOL.

Joe Rose used to have in his publications.  Eventually, the reviews were replaced with "erotic fiction" and I had no idea how hobbyists were getting any sort of feedback until I stumbled across TER.

I handle my bussiness Via Internet only. I agree with your statement. I am a southern bella kind of girl and in my pass experience I have not experience seening the street walker on the streets nor do I see it where I live. I only knows what goes on in the movies.

Alot of those streetwalkers are underage and ran away from abusive homes also.  Most websites will not permit underage girls to be on their sites, as they shouldn't.  Meanwhile, the girl(streetwalker)ends up in another abusive situation being exploited by a pimp.  Most landlords will not rent to people under 18, so they feel like they have no choice but to walk the streets and stay in some dingy motel.  It's a messed up snowball effect and it's too bad that there are not more people for them to turn to.  On the other hand, there are women who just don't care and don't know any better.  It's a sad thing to see, but I try not judge unless I've been in their shoes.
