If the payments are made from an adult website that could tip them off.

providers that are requesting deposits through Paypal. I am one that doesn't believe in the deposit for the type of service that I seek, I travel to your city and give you references to check me out. I do not seek visiting providers because I have been left hanging on 2 ocassions.

On to the purpose of this post. I have heard about the new Paypal policy about adult services no longer being able to use Paypal, and I have just received this notice as I use Paypal for my business. I am curious as to which service you are planning to use when Paypal's new policy goes into effect?
Here is what they sent to me.

User Agreement Update

Notice Date: April 10, 2003
Effective Date: June 12, 2003

PayPal has updated its Acceptable Use Policy to simplify the policy on transactions of adult items. After June 12, 2003, PayPal will no longer process transactions for adult items through the Mature Audiences category on eBay.com. As a result, after June 12, PayPal will no longer process payments for adult items anywhere on the Internet.

PayPal strives to find the right balance between serving our community and minimizing our financial risk. We feel that exiting the Mature Audiences category with a clear and consistent policy for all adult items best achieves this balance.

As part of this effort, we are extending the deadline for when PayPal customers must stop sending and receiving payments for tangible adult products, including magazines, DVDs and videocassettes. Originally May 12, this deadline has now been extended to June 12 to correspond with the phase-out of PayPal service for these items on eBay. The deadline to stop sending and receiving payments for digital adult products and services, including online photos, streaming video and audio services, will remain May 12. For more information on our Mature Audience Policy, log in to your PayPal account and click on "Policy Updates" in the What's New box. You will find a link to the Mature Audience Policy under the April 10, 2003, User Agreement Update.

That new Paypal policy has been in effect for a couple of months now.  If an Escort has her account set up as a Non-Adult related account, she is safe to continue using Paypal for her website transactions.

Many Escorts won't set up their accounts under Adult Services but under general services such as, "So & So Associates" or "John Doe Enterprises", etc.

As for those Escorts who request deposits, I'm one of them and the gentlemen who patronize my business have no problems sending one either by Paypal or Mail. It is a comfirmation of their commitment as a gentlemen of their word. Let's face it, some men cancel at the spur of the moment and leave voids in our schedules and feel no remorse about it. Your choice not to seek visiting providers is your choice but most visiting providers do request deposits simply because they've acquired overhead expenses and deposits insures them coverage vs liability.

I understand what you are saying and your reasoning. But I wasn't asking for the reasoning behind it. I asked what you plan on doing once Paypal discovers that you are taking payments for adult related services. Also, according to the email I recvd, the new policy doesn't go into effect until June 12th.

But since you decided to justify your reasons .........

I am sure that you are truly a professional and wouldn't stand a man up after a deposit was made. And if you had to cancel you would refund the deposit in full also.

Well, I am a gentleman and I don't cancel appts at the last minute and the only way you could find that out would be to check my references, or from 1 of the provider only boards. OTOH, I have been stood up by 2 well known, well reviewed ladies that, luckily I didn't send a deposit to because they haven't ever returned a phone call or an email, very unprofessional.

so it is a 2 way street.

How can Paypal discover that I'm an Escort? I have a Business Account set up under my Lingerie Distributorship and there's no Website associated with it.

If the payments are made from an adult website that could tip them off.

I am a firm believer of the no-deposit rule. Just don't do it no matter how it is packaged. If I see a provider who requires a deposit, I just pass. No harm no foul. What about providers who cancel or don't show up. This is a two-way street.

I know some people interested in anonymity use e-gold... I have not used it myself and I am not sure how convenient it is, but it would likely be worth looking into.

There are indications that e-metal type services will be subject to greater regulation in future, but nothing is certain there.

Paypal has always been notorious for freezing accounts, etc. It will be interesting to see how deleterious the new policy is for them.

You can also use Western Union or Money Gram. Senders are not required to show I.D. Therefore, you can use any name you like. Only receivers must present Identification. Just a thought. It's worked very well for me.

Result of no-show; no cancel clients. Some make it harder for others.
