Hi Everyone

I've been thinking getting DSL or CABLE MODEM for my computer for awhile, Now that I'm ready to, I don't know which company  to sign up with. Can anyone please tell me the best company beside SPRINT that provide DSL/CABLE service?

Use the local telephone company.  At the end of the day all the providers in a specific area have to go back to the local telco because the local has the only wire into the house.  A provider like AOL that might offer DSL would actually turn around and contract for the service through the local telco but then electronically connect you to their own home content page instead of the local telco's.  The only thing this does is add extra complexity (and time) when it breaks (and it will break)

If Pac Bell DSL serves your area (Or SBC) they are ok.

The hard part is actually getting it hooked up. Dont know about now, but there used to be terrible wait times. But it was not just them, evreyone was like that.

Once it is hooked up though, it works pretty well.

Bad news! You really don't have much of a choice when it comes to high-speed internet access. If your cable tv provider offers cable modem, great. However, if they don't offer it, you won't be able to get it from another cable tv company. Likewise, if your local pacbell offers DSL, you'll have to get if from them. The alternative for DSL is AOL. That's who I subscribe from, and it seems to be fine. I was even able to install it myself. However, it didn't work without investing in a Monster Cable phone line cable. Expensive for a phone line ($30 for a 20 foot cable)

Hunter,

Here in Las Vegas, Cox Communications offers a reliable cable modem connection for $39.95 a month. DSL is also available through Sprint.  I use the cable modem and have absolutely no complaints.  They come out to your place and hook it up, they even do any configuration changes to your computer that might be needed.

I hope that you get hooked up to high speed internet access, cause I've had the darndest time trying to get you to respond to email requests for an appointment.  Maybe the cable modem will help!!  :-)

Hey Vito
I responds to both my emails & phone calls immediately. When were the last time you contact me? Don't be a stranger now.....LOL. Regarding the DSL/CABLE MODEM matter, Wish I could used COX CABLE but they don't service the apartment complex that I reside in. Any way, the only choice left for me is SPRINT.

P.S. Thanks to everyone that have repsonded to this thread. I truely appreciate it.
