I'm not a techie guru, but I do know enough to know that "clear history" isn't sufficient to erase your tracks. Basically, if the person who is seeking your trail, knows more about computers than you know, then he will know more places to look for your trail, than you will know to erase. You have to be one step ahead of whoever you want to hide from, or else you can't guarantee successfully hiding.

There is software you can buy, either by downloading it on the internet or by going to your local CompUSA and asking a sales person. I recommend it. In these times, ya can't be too safe. I personally use one of the eraser utilities that totally wipes every trace of internet and keystroke behavior, and actually (you learn to do this quite easily with the controls) requires a restart to wipe out the last vestiges of your traces of activity. This software is called Cyberscrub. There are also other competitors to it.

While you're at it, look for a utility that not only clears your privacy / security traces, but also blocks pop-up windows or does other little tricks that might make your internet experience a little better. Some of the software is also useful as its own reverse -- rather than erasing traces, it records them and reports on them. That can be handy for parents with children who surf unattended, for example; or for a husband who wants to create a fake rap-sheet of his own, to present to his wife in a subtle ploy to suggest she already knows where he's been. Heh heh heh  ...
