i'm watching CNN do her a rather effusive tribute right now.

very sad ... at least she's now reunited with Spencer at last (hard to believe he passed away over 30 years ago)

bless her soul

:(

and I am attracted to her patrician look (in Morning Glory and Philadephia Story).  On the other hand, she looked too aloof and cold just like her character Tracy Lord.  Later in life, her matriarchal role in "Suddenly, Last Summer" and the manipulating queen in "The Lion in Winter" reminded me too much of the scheming women in my family.

I liked Bette Davis much better.  Her vulnerability and the need to act strong while hurting inside often pull my heartstring.  "Jezebel", "Dark Passage" and "Now, Voyager" are all films I liked very much.  Her role in the earlier film "Of Human Bondage" with Leslie Howard reminded me of many ladies I met over the years.

I'll reverse the names in honor of Kate...probably one of the biggest affairs of the last century. She didn't even attend Spencer's funeral out of respect for his wife. They certainly made beautiful "music" on the screen as well, saying their last goodbyes on screen in "Guess whose coming to Din Din". She was also great with Bogie in the African Queen, one of my ATF movies. And then when you thought her career was over, she wins the big O, teaming up with Henry Fonda in "On golden Pond"
She was a classy lady; a real woman's woman!

to say anything negative about the recently deceased, like Katherine Hepburn, but as far as Hollywood icons with cheekbones and funny accents go, I would take Lauren Bacall over her anyday.

Have always loved her, too. And her feistiness - wasn't she a redhead, also?
I think the woman of that day were strikingly beautiful, with a classy elegance to them whereas today's screen names are all about their sexiness - their bodies and how 'hot' they look. I don't think those things should be what stands out - the fun is in discovering it..
It's said to see her gone now..

"You don't have to SAY anything, and you don't have to DO anything".

"Or maybe, just whistle.  You know how to whistle, don't you Steve?"

"You just put your lips together and blow".

(To Have, and Have Not)

I'm still in love with her.

She was one of the best.  Loved African Queen as well as her movies with Spencer Tracy.
