Absolutely  not, it is very stark and raw in many areas. The man who wrote the book took seven years to write it becasue it wanted it to be realistic. Believe me nothing is romantacized. You will see when you read it.

Hi Girls,

You have got to read this book! "The Crimson Petal and The White," by Micheal Faber. It is about the life of a heroine that just happens to be a prostitute. It is based in London during the Victorian era. You will love it....Guys, I am not discouraging any of you from reading it either.

I gave a copy to my ATF last time we met - (read her the first chapter out loud.  Now that's a great opening chapter)  I also inquired about the rights, found out it's in active development with producer Laura Ziskin - the one who brought us Spiderman - and star of same -- Kirstin Dunce is set to headline.

Does it romanticize the life??

That time in that world was very difficult for women, especially providers. Literature of both now and then tend to romanticize it because the upper classes lived lives of the idle rich with secret lives that were basically what most people of any era do, but more delectable because so much of the Victorian era was forbidden fruit.

Brits and Americans tend to believe the romance, but it was a dog eat dog world for 99% of the population. Especially in that class-ridden society...

(Not meaning to doubt Lisa's opinion, just wondering...)
