I've read the book and it's brilliant, looking forward to seeing the film when it comes out over here.

I've been suffering from colds and allergies, and while incubating wondering why no one  has commented.

Is this such a horrible film?

"In the Realm of the Senses" by Nagisa Oshima... none of this stylized nonsense. Then ask this question.

There is HORRIBLE (bad, stupid) and there is horrible (Horrific, mind numbing, risque, off-color, over-the-edge). Thinking about Geishas, the culture, then the movie I mentioned is worth a rental if you can find it (it was banned for awhile). I can't say more as to not give it away.

managed to find both videos after reading about the stories ... have yet to watch this one ...

He didn't say much about it except that the Chinese film-making industry is pissed because the film took two of the top Chinese actresses to play Japanese; and the Japanese film-making industry is pissed because Chinese actresses were chosen to play Japanese.

...they all look alike.  By the way...I was born in Vietnam :)  I'm very interested in seeing this movie and am looking forward to hearing/reading anyone's comments.

confusing at times if you haven't read the book.  The reviews have been mixed, but everyone I know who has seen it has liked it, and you can most certainly put me in that group!

Went to the limited opening night. The movie is good however the story is missing something emotionally. The dir of photography should get an Oscar-nomination as Zyi Zhiang looks good and Michelle Yeoh looks better. Gong Li had too much screen time looking hungover.

one of the very best I have read in a long time. I am hesitant to see the movie for fear it will not live up to the imagery and story that is now etched in my memory.

Happy Holidays carrie...good to see you here...

have seen all the trailers.  Loved the book, just hope the film is not a fiasco ...

Still, being as it's such a current film concerning this realm of life, was just wondering that no one has up to this point mentioned anything ... guess the vote isn't in yet  ....

Happy Holidays all....

it was not so scary, as it was disgusting.

Interesting film, though.  Hopefully Geisha is nothing like this ...

I believe it is in limited release. I think it's opening nationwide this Friday.
