If the nudes are of adults obviously over the age of 18 you won't have any problems. If they are of young kids in the tub, galavanting about the house, and other assorted innocent looking stuff, you also won't have any problems.

The only two situations where you will have a problem is:

1) if the nudes are of young teens or those that appear under 18.
2) if you are sick/stupid enough to put a child in anything remotely resembling a sexual situation, in which case you deserve to go to a Federal, pound-me-in-the-ass, prison.

Some labs won't print nudes, so you'll have to check. For the stuff that I don't print myself, I use a lab that caters to professional photographers. They're used to dealing with the subject matter.

Since we have touched on the issue of Camera and Photography, here is another question:

If I take a roll of film that includes nude pictures [not pornographic], and have them develop/print it, is  it illegal?

I live in California ... Thanks.

No...there are many nudes in museums all over the world!!! On the other hand, it may be time to purchase a digital camera and printer to eliminate the middleman (or install a darkroom).  Nude children has sometimes been a topic although all of us have that picture of us in the tub...

new law my buddy Schwansschwinger got passed.

Once again, send ALL nude photos to NeedleDick.com for review to be in compliance with this new law. The penalties of non-compliance are severe.

it is not illegal to take pictures of any kind, anywhere, anytime - as long as you are not breaking the law while taking them.

the subject of the photo does not matter. nudity in photo or film is not illegal.

if you took "dirty" pictures that involved a clearly illegal act (i.e. child porno, rape, etc) a photo clerk MIGHT decide to alert the law and said law might decide to investigate your activities to determine if you were, in fact, a pedophile rapist pornographer.

if the photos are of illegal, pornographic activity and are sent throught the mail, it could become a federal offense.

If you take nude pix to the lab and they are nudes of an adult..the only thing i think you might ave to worry about is the guys there making copies.for themselves...However i might be wrong but. i think if anyone in a lab comes across nude kiddie porn they are required by law to alert LE.

nobody who works in a photo is required to report anything. a lot of people WILL, though.

All the more reason to get a digital camera and the Sony printer.  This prints 4x6 pictures (using dye sublimation-- not that anyone cares) that are as good (well depending on your camera and lighting) as what you get from the lab. That way you can print in the privacy of your own home.

Digital Photography has made my life easier but, its sad that this advance makes it easier for the sickos who deal with kiddie porn....no labs to report them....A step forward two steps back :(

The recommendation to go Digital is spot-on. However, at the price of camera's and printer's these days, I think you can do better than 4x6 prints.  I'm using a Nikon Cool-Pix 5000 and an Epson Styles Photo 2200. Together, they ran me about $1300, and I'm getting beautiful photo's on glossy photo paper at sizes up to 11x14. Considering how much an encounter with a top PSE runs, $1300 is a reasonable investment.

BUT...don't ever, ever, ever forget about lighting! You can put together an inexpensive "guerilla" lighting kit with parts and pieces from your local hardware store, or drop simply another $400-$1,000 on a professional kit from Lowell or similar.

The need for a lighting kit will become all the more obvious if you start shooting Video.

Perhaps you remeber the case several years ago where a woman who was a professional photographer sent pictures of her daughter to a photo lab. Among the literally thousands of shots of her daughter were several of her daughter in the bath tub.
The lab technician turned her in to the police and she was prosocuted as a child pornagrapher.

Imagine how that charge would screw up your family.

She was convicted but later won on appeal.

So if you want to place your life in the hands of a 17 yo lab technician and the opinion of local LE, submit the picks.
