The behavior you are describing is not due to any settings on your local machine or your browser. Without getting technical, it has to do with the design of the pages on the website. My guess is that the provider pages are pages in fact. When you access one, a temporary copy is stored on your machine and when you go back to it, you see the one from your machine including position information. I think the discussion board’s pages are more of a manufactured-on-demand kind of thing so that each time you access it, you are seeing a fresh copy from the website and with no history of your position on the main page, just what sub-page you are on. But I could be wrong
My question relates to the different results on the TER site when using the "back" button on Internet Explorer. Technical info: using a new laptop, XPHome, dial up service (not AOL). The question: When working my way through the "Provider Reviews" section, the Back button takes me back to the EXACT position on the previous page that I saw. I scroll down to the latest review on a lady's profile, click on that review, read it, then hit the Back button and the profile page comes back up exactly the way it was. Also, if I click on the reviewer's name to see his list of reviews, the Back button does the same thing, it takes me back to the same view of her profile page. HOWEVER, the Back button does not produce comparable results in the Discussion Boards area. After reading a specific post, clicking on the Back button brings me to the top of the page of that particular board, not to the location where the particular message is located. (Strangely, however, I specifically recall that for a day or two several months ago, I DID find that the Back button took me back to the same view I had just left.) What's up? I assume that since there are different results with the Back button on the same site that I have not somehow changed an Option in Internet Explorer. Any way to avoid the aggravation of having to continually scroll back down a Discussion Board's page to get to the next post? While I am asking technical questions: (Wish TER would simply provide an answer somewhere.) What does the envelope icon next to a name signify? 1) Merely that it is not an alias; or, 2) That the person can actually receive and reply to private messages? Thanks in advance to those who take the time to respond.
I believe the difference is because the discussion boards may get a new message therefore it changes much more frequently than a review, profile or reviewers page.
In answer to your other questions; The envelope means it is a posters main alias or handle, the person can recieve and send PM' s only if they are a VIP member.
I have the same problem, but only when I click on a link included in the message. That's when the back button takes me to the top of the page. If I simply read the post and then hit back, it takes me right back to the thread. I was curious about this as well.
