Periodically trolls start a thread that anyone who does this, that, or the other thing presently captivating the troll's imagination Must Be Gay. Recently, the Gay label was applied to any guy who participates in M-F-M. The label also has been applied to anyone who likes prostate stimulation or pegging, anyone who ever tried snowballing, anyone who enjoys a transgender escort, etc. This must mean that all the guys you see in bukake videos lined up to jizz in a girl's mouth are Gay, too, but I suggest you not be in the room with those guys when you pronounce them Gay. But let's stipulate for the sake of argument that any guy who does any of these Highly Suspect Activities is GAY.
Having applied the Gay label, how does it help us understand the person who wears that Scarlet G; how does it help predict his affairs? Does it really mean that all such guys would just love to have a heavy make-out session with Brad Pitt or Liam Hemsworth (bear with me, I had to google some names of "hot male celebrities), followed by a passionate session in the sack? Well, actually, no. I for example immensely enjoyed my time with TS Sasha, but I recoil at the thought of doing anything whatsoever with a guy-guy. Don't want to touch, kiss, gaze in the eyes, sleep in the same bedroom, or marry a guy-guy. So how exactly does the Gay label help characterize me and what do I have in common with all of the other Highly Suspect Activities? I would hate to be in a M-F-M and I don't think I could even get it up if I was cast in a bukake video. I accompanied some gay friends once to a gay bar and was bored except when fending off a few of their acquaintances.
Actually, that Scarlet G is not useful because it attempts to sweep too many diverse activities in the human sexual repertoire into one box. The need to apply the label this way seems to say more of the person who applies the label than it does about the person who is labeled. Sadly, a side effect of throwing about the Gay label is that by implication it denigrates the significant portion of our peers who really are gay in the commonly understood meaning of that term. Not always, but often the application of the Gay label carries with it a whiff of disapproval, censure, and more than a whiff of defensiveness or fear of one's own subconscious. It often sounds very much like a social conformist eager to loudly declare the social norm so that no one might think the conformist is anything but.

As probably the only actual gay person on these boards, all I can do is endorse the "labels are for soup cans" philosophy.
