I went to a M&G recently with a lovely lady- and had a wonderful time.  I never felt "pursued" by any of the ladies at the M&G - but did enjoy their company and later left with the lady I had accompanied... for a wonderful time after the party....

Now?  I go to a business reception.... and am introduced to a "looker"!  the lady is a professional (other than escort) and she is telling me about her firm's services... but I get the distinct feeling that she is coming on to me..... and I detach myself from her....  as I want to just mingle with the other guests.... and was a bit uncomfortable as I did not know where this was going...  after I meet the pres of the firm...  do the obligatory howdy's and other social musts, she reattaches herself to me.... and starts chatting again.... now mind you - the lady is an 8/9 with a nice body.... so she is not hard to look at...  then she tells me of her hubby.... and I go wahhhh?   I mean - is she telling me of a hidden desire... or is she a true tease....  

Fortunately I had to bow out of the reception as I had another to go to that night.... but.... again.... as luck would have it, civie world behaves much more strangely than hobby world!  go figure.....

Some companies I have dealt with have attractive marketing ladies fawn on me.  I always figure they see sales and I have had the distinct impession that I was someone's assignment.  I can usually tell fairly quickly by changing the conversation to something technical to see if the person knows anything about the business.  I don't like this market approach at all.  Really pisses me off.  Why?
 Because I feel like a natural need or fealing of mine is being used against me for ulterior reasons.  Kind of like in high school having a real pretty and popular girl express an interest in you (me) and then later laugh at you.
Ugh.

but as I say, I broke off the conversation to mingle and still wound up with her by my side....

I also agree that some (not all) women who are competent but good looking use their looks to "close the deal"!  The particular person that I use at the company is also a woman - but does not feel the need to pander to me!  so....  this was a bit different.
