even though technically it wouldn't be my fault, it certainly would be more my fault than hers, and I wouldn't be upset at all to pay her for her time.

OTOH, if she were the one getting sick, I would have an issue only receiving 80% of my money back. If there is anything worse than no session, it's a partial session where I get all worked up and then bam, it's over without me "getting mine" Just like I wouldn't mind paying her in full for her time if I were at fault, I would expect a 100% refund, plus maybe a bit on consideration on the next visit for the early ending to the session.

but I do like the way you think:)

If you insist on getting that $$? You might have gotten paid...but I guarantee you that client is never EVER coming back. But if you are sympathetic and understanding...he'll at least be back, and if he's nice, he'll make it up to you.

Poor guy!! How much does it suck to get sick instead of getting laid...and then he has to pay for the experience on top of everything else? Worst. Day. Ever.

I'll say this - if you're out costs - like it you booked a hotel for the date, and he knows it - he should make that right. But why should he pay for a session he can't have, through no fault of his own? And when he's already suffering?

Imagine you went into a restaurant and ordered a steak..and got sick BEFORE you ate it (or even after you ate a bite or two). They WOULD comp your bill and likely be very nice about it. That's how service works. You might OFFER to pay for the steak...and if it's a good place, they'd refuse. They'd act like they cared more about your health than the money. If they acted that way...bet you'd leave a nice tip for the waiter!! Probably even enough to cover the steak. But imagine they made you pay for the steak you could not eat, and acted like that was all they cared about. Sure, you'd understand...it's a lost steak...but it would leave a bad feeling. You'd likely not leave such a nice tip for the waiter, and I bet you wouldn't EVER go back. And maybe even give it bad word-of-mouth.

I would never keep any money he refunded me (unless it was meant to reimburse me for the room).

But a nice person would also feel badly about taking the entire donation, in that situation.

Maybe I'd accept like $100 or so...but only if it was to mollify a dude who really felt super guilty and couldn't live w/the thought that he was putting me out (that is how 90% of my clients would feel, and probably how I would too). I'd take it so that he could feel like he had made it right w/me and not have that to worry about.... but I'd at least try to refuse it.

If he didn't act like he felt badly about taking up my time for naught (for example, if I'd blocked off my whole day and traveled a distance to get there), I'd either think that he was THAT sick, or a bit of a dooche. But I still would not demand my money back.

Fortunately for me, and the ladies I've been with this hasn't happened to me. Absolutely not do I expect a discount or a refund, it's not her fault I have stomach problems and she has made herself available to my schedule. I can assure you though that the session would be over though, I can't even imagine trying to pinch my but cheeks while she's blowing me. Now I would hope that there aren't providers out there that would put Visine in my drink to induce the runs.

Interesting question, has this happened to you?

I agree the 80% is arbitrary.  I just adopted it from what the OP said she would do if the shoe was on the other foot (or the ass on the other toilet, so to speak).  My point was only that the outcome shouldn't really differ based on whether it was the provider or the monger who ate the nasty vindaloo.  What's tainted sauce for the goose should be ranted sauce for the gander.

I either pay for "services delivered" meaning 100%, or I pay nothing at all. Now a two hour session that had to end in one, that MIGHT be a different story, but 15 minutes, just enough time to get my motor running, only to have her limp out the door doesn't warrant any money from me I am afraid. Just like I wouldn't expect a penny's worth of refund if I were the one who had to cancel.

Women have been asking for "Equal rights" for decades, well guess what? they have them. I treat them the same as any other professional who charges me hundreds of dollars an hour.

Let me put it to you this way, if CPA make an "outcall" to your residence to discuss certain tax matters, but got violently ill before you had a chance to do anything but start on your issue, would you still feel obligated to give him a "travel fee"??? sorry, but I wouldn't give him a dime, and as a professional who realizes that he provided no services that day, I can't imagine him charging either.

Nope...I don't pay travel fees in any cases.  And I've had outcalls more than once.  But then I'm not expecting a gal to schlep out to see me for only an hour as well.

But if she came out...got ill and had to leave...I'm not paying her for that appointment.  As I said I am more than happy to pay for a service, but if that service isn't happening then I'm not paying for it.

Maybe since I've been self-employed most of my life I see things the way I do.  No one is going to pay me to NOT do what I agreed to do.  Irrespective of the fact that I may have gotten ill...I don't get paid to NOT work.

I also have no problem in seeing a gal even if she shit herself silly in my bathroom.  Although it would have to be at a later date...as I'm just not into the shit scene  LOL

She absolutely should be comped for her out of pocket expenses. A nice gesture on her part would be to comp him some time on a future visit... That would be quid pro quo.

My ATF has a stomach bug/ condition... It can definitely come up all of a sudden. There's been few occasions for her where it's cropped up rather suddenly and I've been the man-nurse while she writhes in pain. One time we discovered she can't handle foie gras anymore...I hadi sprung for dinner at her favorite, and quite prestigious French joint, we got back to our lovely room and she gave me the, " I can't believe this is happening!!!" look. Btw...I always take care of the rendezvous logistics, that's how I roll. So, my room & associated expenses.

No problem for me....She has always made up for it by fucking the crap out of me at a later date.

If you're dealing with good people, in what's an essentially intimate milieu,  and all you do is focus on metric particulars while taking no account of the humanity involved, it's going to bite you in the ass sooner or later.

Sorry for the big assed run-on.

This gal might even recognize herself...  I was with a young MILF hottie...  just as the fun started...  I got a nose bleed.  I had them often as a child & instantly took action to protect her bedding.  I spotted one tiny drip which I pointed out to her so it would not stain.  It took a bit of time to get it stopped in her bathroom & by then she was dressed & no refund.  There was still half the time on the clock but she was having none of it.  I'd have liked to do something...  No, I never went back.

I have been stuck with stomach bug at a AFTs home...  it was after the play.  She wanted to leave & I was not in a condition to travel.  There was not an incoming meeting fortunately.   awkward...

So you can believe it or not...I would not give a gal a travel fee...and as for those insane cancellation fees some of the mangina crowd crow about...not a fucking chance either.

But I will gladly pay a gal for performing as advertised and agreed upon.

Now that I know you're a cheap asshole...if you want a tax opinion it'll require a deposit (Hey...some of these crazy gals try and get it, and of course there's some weenie boys who pay it)  LOL

I'm totally on-board with the concept that a professional should not expect to be paid for services NOT rendered. professional is professional.

BUT. Lots of professionals charge cancellation fees. I recently paid a cancellation fee to my dentist when I missed my appt, without calling to cancel at least 24 hrs ahead. Something came up last minute. I flaked on my appt. I paid a cancellation fee.

Cancelation fees are not at all uncommon

Dr Who revived 897 reads

I recall we debated that topic some time ago as well.

And my comment then was you need to find a new dentist (or any professional that charges a cancellation fee).

My logic is simple...if that professional wants to charge you, ME or the next guy a cancellation fee then I would expect that if I have to wait for them as they are running late...they better be prepared to pay me a "late fee".  I have yet to see that from anyone...as I doubt you have either.

It would be common courtesy to let a professional know that you're not going to keep an appointment, and 24 hours is sufficient notice.  But given how often a doctor or dentists office double and triple book....there would be a ZERO percent chance I would ever pay them a cancellation fee...even if I simply forgot to show up.  It's also their choice to drop me as a patient.

Cancellation fees are not at all uncommon...however collecting on them is extremely rare.

Same as with any gal here...she can put that crap on her site and tattoo it on her forehead....but I would not pay it.  If others would, that's no problem of mine.

FWIW my dentists are like yours...when I show up for an appointment, they are ready to work on me.  And in exchange I am usually 5 minutes early at a minimum.  That's how I like my clients to work with me, and I extend that professionalism to others who earn it.

The fact that my dentist runs his office so professionally that I never have to wait is a significant advantage to me. My professional life is very busy---and it is not uncommon for me to have to take phone calls while I'm sitting in the chair. Getting in and out quickly, while receiving exceptional service is valuable to me.

By the same token, when *I* fuck up and do not show up for my appt, I am more than willing to return the professional courtesy of understanding that he is not paying his staff to stand around idle for an hour waiting for the person booked for the next appt time slot.

But that's beside the point. My dentist absolutely has a very clear cancellation policy. It's no secret what that policy is. I was in the wrong on this one. I paid the cancellation fee. Again...no big whoop.

When I say I did not have to pay the fee, what that means is, I know full well I could have told the office manager to go fuck herself when she brought it up. I would not have been dropped as a patient. But that would have been a really dickhead thing to do.

What you seem to be failing to grasp here is that I think paying the fee was the right thing to do. And, I would absolutely do the same thing with a provider if I NCNS'd her, regardless of whether she had a cancellation policy, or not.

Not sure what your point is. Again, lots of professionals have cancellation policies. Paying one does not make anyone a fool. If you don't like the policy, or have no intention of adhering to it, don't schedule in the first place

If I'm no-showed or short notice cancelled, I do have a cancellation fee.  If I no-show or short notice cancel, I have a similar matching credit offered on the reschedule.  If I get sick and cancel, I expect nothing and would certainly apologize profusely and offer compensation for the inconvenience.  I have a clear policy about what I expect about the reverse.  Fair is fair and *everyone's* time is valuable.

Correct , there are - no services rendered... other than the 1.5 hours I spent preparing for the session, the fruit and snacks I got for our date, sometimes even a hotel room.  When I incur expenses I expect them to be covered by someone who simply doesn't show, or at least give me enought time to avoid the expenses to begin with.  As you even say - many doctors and dentists overbook to ensure that their overhead is covered - I don't.

I'm fine with someone not paying the cancellation fee.  I'm also fine not rescheduling with someone who doesn't value my time.

BTW, collecting cancellation fees, and paying them, is not uncommon.  I've paid my counselor, my yoga instructor, my personal trainer, and my nail salon fees over time for the inconvenience my sometimes erratic schedule has caused.  I'm ok with that, and they are always happy to see me walk back in the door for return business.

BTW the reason I don't book in advance is so I don't ever flake out on a woman, my schedule is such that I don't even know what country I will be in from one day to another, the last thing I want to be worried about when grabbing a last minute flight to Bogota, or some such place, is having to give notice to some provider that I might have made an appointment with that week. I demand to be treated professionally and those that I do business with respect my time. Those people who waste my time without compensating me in some way will find me no longer dealing with them unless economicly the account is too valuable to pass on. I may forgive once but that ends my tolerance for wasting my time and money be it a doctor, lawyer, vendor, repair man, employee, customer, or sex worker. Given I demand  of others to have my time treated as it is of value it would be hypocritical if I did not deal with others the same way. I have zero issue with a cancellation fee and pay them. I even paid a lady 50% of her fee when I had to cancel without being asked. Why? Because it is the respectful thing to do. Others may see it as foolish but respecting the wasted time and money of money a provider be it healthcare, sex worker, or other with a reasonable cancellation fee should a very rare last second cancellation occur on my part.
