Apologies if I sound a little pissed, but I was supposed get laid a few hours ago and
plans "fell through" (will explain) and no one I like seems to accept last minute incall
appointments after 9pm, so I am out of luck on a back up plan at the moment.
So, I go out of my way to make myself available on a weekday so that I can have my
choice of providers. I pick this indy PYT that is on her 3rd retirement tour. (I'm not naming names)
She has 9 pages of excellent reviews going back 5 years!
All screened up and I get confirmation for an 8pm appointment at 3:16pm.
Note that I don't have mobile e-mail access right now.
I check my hobby e-mail at 6:30pm, and no cancellation notice from the provider. I hop
in the car and get to her incall at just about 8pm.
For the next 40 minutes, I am pacing like a fucking idiot outside of her hotel. Called
her 10 times, left 2 messages. She never picks up. Never calls back.
When I get home, I notice that she e-mailed me at 7:01pm saying she had an emergency
- "roommate problems".
I tell her she should have called me or at least picked up the phone. She can't expect
everyone to have a crackberry with mobile e-mail access checking it all the time.
Her excuse is that she couldn't use her "work" phone because of the people she was with
and that's why she couldn't pick up or call back.
She did apologize in the e-mail and offered a discount for tomorrow (I am not available tomorrow).
So question for you: Does this count as a NCNS?
I'm ready to let it go and not say anything more and move on with my life, but if you think
I need to report this somewhere and call her out, let me know.
I HATE it when clients do that to me. I understand how pissed you are. Regardless of what you'd call it it's a lousy thing to do.
I had a provider text me because she could not get thru via phone.
Everyone is different but no way I'm visiting a retiring provider, if I know she's retiring.
Why would she care if her services are based on customer satisfaction, since she's not worried about repeat customers.If she cared at all, she would have texted you.

I often arrive a few minutes early to cover for possible traffic issues & to be sure of the location. Having found it, I back track to a nearby coffee shop & return with just enough time. If I was faced with your situation, I think I would have withdrawn to a coffee joint & taken a break, ready to return quickly if it came to pass but not drawing attention to myself in the meantime.

I dont start my car unless I have a CONFIRMED appointment. (Confirmed is that I have spoken to that provider ) SHIT happens and it is silly to take off and drive 30minutes or an hr without TALKING to the the provider. I make the call ," I am on my way is all good"?

You drove 1hr for an appointment and when you get there he was gone had a family emergency (kid broke his arm...or whatever)....... But, I do think we on a review board have a responsibility to call out bona fide NCNS to protect each other, especially since the review system doesn't allow for it.
I will try calling beforehand to confirm like you suggested, but I'm not sure if providers will appreciate that.
But hey you have 201 reviews so you must be doing something right...

I'm not saying she didn't bail almost at the last minute, and that it doesn't suck.
NCNS means "No call (or contact, I suppose) and no show." YOU WERE THE ONE UNAVAILABLE. So onsider these points:
- First, she did email you an hour before. You used to set up your appointment, but say you don't have email on a mobile device. Did you give her a way to contact you (i.e. your mobile number) for cancellations? Did you give her ANY instructions about when she needs to let you know if there is a cancellation (i.e. I have to leave at 6:30 PM to get to you and you can't reach me via email, This is the alternate communication method for anything after 6:30.)
- She offered a discount for the next day. OK, you're not available, did you contact to find a mutually agreeable day?
Whatever her reason, hopefully it is legitimate, she tried to do what she could, and THEN offered a discount follow-on session. As the client, you need to make sure she has a way to contact you or you ALWAYS run this risk. That she doesn't answer her work phone in personal settings is SOP for providers.
