TER had to pay some programmer or programmers to come up with the "new" crappy website. They have to pay to bebug and fix it and upgrade it with every new patch and update of their hosting OS (Linux? Windows? What do you think their servers are running?)
.
TER could use FREE consortium maintained and upgraded, widely accepted and praised open source Forum Software. There are plenty of choices! TER would need to (a) customize it to be TER in look, feel, titles, logos, etc. (b) do their best to port the older versions to the newer version -- and there might be some losses or incompatibilities. After the conversion, you need one guy to make sure that the periodic updates are installed.
TER must be the most consumer-unfriendly site around. I'll be even the limited version of the old TER won't be around long. It's all about saving money. The sooner they kill the old TER the sooner they can stop paying for the storage capacity to house it. BOO!
So glad I don't pay them a dime.
As of tonight, it's effectively dead. ![]()
...I can still see the classic view, but the site automatically reverts to beta when you try to post anything.
So yeah....for all practical purposes, classic TER is dead.
You're effectively wrong.

I just had it kick me to the Beta version. THAT SUCKS!
I keep fighting it to let me post on Classic. I did already but you got to fight it to do so.
WHY!!!
With too many bugs, and they killed classic way too soon. ☹️
Last time they updated to a new version (what we are calling "classic "now) they left the older version as "classic" fully operational for years. I thought they would do the same thing now. Boo TER!
We have 2017 !!! Time for changes... be more flexible !!!

If they leave the old version hot they have to adapt and maintain it, so it's going to cost them more to do so.
Also on the topic of bugs, well, I haven't experienced any in weeks, and I was on the beta right away.
but I think the year 2525 would have been too soon to release it.
There are some things I like about the new format, but I hate EVERYTHING they have done to the discussion boards, especially the fact they have made it almost impossible for people to follow a thread. It used to be that only people using flat mode would constantly respond to wrong person, or get all butt hurt thinking someone said something to them when in fact they were talking to somebody else entirely. Now, everyone is getting it wrong who tries to follow threads on the new version.
This is true, the threads are hard to follow.
I'm honestly unsure why they didn't just archive the old boards and build a new system from scratch. There are many, many secure, open source boards to choose from that probably wouldn't take much to implement. Instead they just changed the ol' girl's dress, but it's a size too small and she doesn't look great in it.
.... a pain in the ass but not impossible to get around. I don't mind posting on the new site, it's reading/following posts that I don't like. After I post I just scroll to the bottom and enter classic again. A pain but better than staying in the new version. Plus I will now be posting much less just like I gave up reviewing after they royally fucked up the rules.

Who knows, maybe I will even do some actual work? lol
Yes, I am doing the exact same thing, viewing in Classic, but being forced to post in the new version, then immediately going back to Classic.
One thing I have noticed, is that even in Classic, the threads are getting harder and harder to follow because the people on the new version aren't able to tell who they are actually replying to, making the threads a hodge podge of individual posts instead of a coherent thread. I predict this will get worse as more people abandon Classic until TER either fixes the problem like they finally did after MANY months with Classic when it was the "new" TER, or when people just give up on the boards altogether.
I am sure at least some of you remember when Classic was "new" it didn't even have a tree mode and was a complete and total mess. I will give TER credit for cleaning up that mess that they caused, lets see if they can fix this fuck up too.

I think the new software requires you to hit the enter key twice before it will create a paragraph. I kind of like the new software but thread following is confusing.
I have zero issues following threads and posting under the correct person using new TER. I find threads easier to read in fact. As you know, GaGambler, I am no TER apologist. In fact I don't like the changes to the reviews one bit. I actually prefer the new TER boards over cladsic.
It would be nice though for those allergic to change if they would keep classic up for a while, like they did with classic, classic.
This is - as I recall - the 3rd system of TER I have been exposed to-it takes getting used to that's for sure !

I have to log in through the classic site to even get in. 3 days straight it keeps saying password is incorrect, switch to classic and right in.
