I plan to undergo this operation sometime in June/July.  

Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of how this works.

The 2 big questions for me:

They are nearly painless.

1.  Dr. shaves your balls.
2.  Injects shot of novacaine into sack.
3.  Extremely small incision in sack.
4.  Using an instrument gently pulls a tube through the incision.
5.  Snips the tube and burns both ends.
6.  Shoves it back in the sack.
7.  one or two stitches.

Sends you home and advises you to jack off within six hours to clear out the tube.

Only thing you feel is the novacain shot prick.

As far as the vasectomy and your questions...don't listen to pwilley.   It hurts like hell, your balls can fall off, your dick will shrink 25%, your eyesight will be much worse and if you play golf you'll lose 40 years on your tee shots.

Had my vasectomy done 38 years ago. I wasucky to have the nurse do the shaving. They tape your penis to you belly to keep it out of way. Injection wasn't bad, Doctor squeezed area first and then did injection, single incision and tubes where pulled through opening one at a time.
both ends sutured and then cut and cauterized,two stiches to close and the stiches desolve in about 5 days. This is important! You must clear the tubes of sperm at least 6 time s to be sure all living sperm are released.I waited 1 day before I did so or you will be sore or take chance of ripping sutures.Don't worry about your ejaculation. Majority of fluids is not
sperm.Your body will absorb the sperm you produce.
Best thing I"ve done and sex was so much better not having to worry about the pregancy thing.

you can expect 2-3 days of discomfort following the procedure but it should be bearable.  Please note this procedure provides no protection at all against STD's.  This procedure is rareley reversible so keep that in mind if your with a SO.  A women can have a similar prcedure reversed much more easily.  One last little thought to ponder this procedure has a 2-3% failure rate mostly due to surgon error.

Why would such procedure be necessary?

See, I use the method of withdrawal on my wife for all these years of marriage, and I never produced any unwanted pregnancy.  In porn movies, you see this all the time too.  I don't understand why not everyone does it on their wives.

Couple of issues:
Why get one?  For using a provider, you MUST use protection anyway!  
Now if you have a Sig Other and do it bare with her and you do NOT want children EVER.. go for it.

Not during the procedure. Hours later after you get home, you will have pain in your sack that will probably require an ice pack and being off your feet.

2. Does it work?
Yes! My wife got pregnant basically if I looked at her hard. After the procedure, no birth control pills, no pregnancy scares, smooth sailing. Sex as it was meant to be!

3. Will a provider do BBFS?
I'm not going to give to the usual TER "holier-than-thou" attitude. No one on TER will admit it, but if you hobby regularly and are not a complete troll (ha ha), very rarely you will find a provider who you "click" with and will offer you BBFS. If this happens she obviously trusts you to a certain extent, and knowing that you had the procedure will ease her mind, as it will ease yours. This is so rare that it's not worth seeking out, and it's certainly not a good reason to have the procedure. But your wife/SO will appreciate not having to take BC pills, or not having to have tubes tied - a much more invasive procedure.
