Thoughts and Memories of Mistakes Starting Out as a Hobbyistsad_smile

I’m sure everyone, whether new to the hobby or more experienced has some painfully embarrassing memories of when they first dipped their toes into this world. I know there are a million different bullet point guides for what to do and not to do as a noobie. However, I am hoping to start a discussion of not just the mistakes themselves, but the feelings and thought process that drove you to act the way you did and the consequences of said actions.

I have read the rules and know that reviews are not allowed in this part of the forum. So, I wrote a fictional story about a guy named John who made mistake after mistake all throughout his first experience in the Hobby.  I hope that by getting into Johns mind, it will trigger intense feelings, memories and regrets of your beginning times as a hobbyist.

Maybe I am just weird, but the psychological factors that drive the Hobby absolutely fascinate me! The story should take about 10 minutes to read, and I posted it to an anonymous PasteBin page so you guys can all get a chance to read it. I would really appreciate some novice and advanced hobbyists alike to take a look at Johns tale and give some advice and feedback.

If you are in a hurry/don't care enough about John to hear what a fool he was, then please add to the discussion by reminiscing about mistakes you made in your early days.

Haven't had anything happen like what was described by 'John', but thought you might be interested in a book I'm reading which does contain some experiences even worse than John's:

Very interesting read so far.

Exactly. I can't believe after all the BS John put up with ie. the fake pics, super late, he STILL paid so much for so little. I should have gotten more for my money.

Do you tip and if so do you ever tip up front?

Woah, that looks VERY interesting! I am fascinated by the thought process and motives behind hobbyist and providers alike. Think I will have to get a copy of this. Thanks!

A lot of the book takes place pre-internet, but still covers the earlier online stuff from about 1996-2000. Some experiences I would think a lot of folks here could identify with, some of which I know I have avoided.

Between 1974 and 2005 when I joined TER I met about 150 women, mostly from ads in weekly entertainment papers.

Considering the haphazard nature of the meetings, I would say 70% of them were good or better. There were 5-6 gals who absolutely blew me away.  Of the rest almost all were just OK.  I'd say about 3-4 were awful; but at least I never got rolled, arrested or assaulted; and that might mean I have a guardian angel, but I think that shows that the hobby is reasonable safe - at least when compared to civie dating where I did have some dicey moments.

By the way, there are still two regulars I see from the pre TER days.  I've known one for about 15 years, and the other for about 22 years.  They both still rock my world too.

Of course now with TER I'm batting nearly 1000.

And allowed way too much slack. I should have been a dogmatic hardass lol.

That's serious btw
