I never went to the massage parlors but I took a dancer out of Roxy's.  Brooklyn, Il was one of my favorite places.

there was a time - before my marriage - that I hobbied.... and at that time hobbying was a bit of an adventure... on the philly board we recently reminisced about just a short 5 years ago or so... but I am now going back to the late 80s and very early 90s... I use to go to St. Louis on business - and then I would cross the bridge to East St. Louis - there were "hot tub" massage places there....

Am I the only guy who went there....   sometimes, if you were lucky, there would be incredible looking women in these places... very much a hit or miss type of situation....

Other cities had similar places... the gals would come out and line up, you would take your pick, go back - sign a waiver that you were there for a massage only... (wonder if that would EVER stand up in court? lol).  You actually would receive a massage and then the madam of the house would come in, and tell you that the massage part was over...  then she would tell the gal... "oh, and by the way, dearie, you are now on your 'break!'" at which cue, when the madam would leave, you would negotiate the "Rest of the fee" for the adult portion of your visit!?  am I the only one who 'members this stuff...

Bizarro : I enjoyed your post & accompanying link very much. I address the same issues on my 11/17 thread : "Hobbying before the mid 90's" which can be found below.

although many have had similar experiences... no two have had the exact same experience - which makes me think that the internet has "standardized" the business.  that is a good think in my mind....  by being stardardized - maybe we are unified to some extent - and therein lies hope in decriminalization.  maybe -

The other thing that seems about right is that things started to change in the mid 90s.  Right when I was married......   so I did not see the gradual change... but rather this big gap in customs associated with the hobby.... like it better now, although I have to say, the hot tub place had its moments.....  really nice moments!

Nothing like the ancient days of the late 70s and early 80s in NYC, when I first started out, and the only thing I knew how to do was to approach streetwalkers.  On foot [me and them both].

Now THAT was really hit and miss, and adventurous too, as you never knew if the lady was a lady, or a guy, or a LE decoy, until  WAAY too late.

My favorite spot was a relatively short patch of Madison Ave  from about 32nd street to 27th street, and you either went into an alley, a parked car, or one of the really sleazy, short-stay hot sheet motels in the area.  Most now gentrified out of existence. [Coward that I was and am, I always opted for the motel].

I soon learned that this activity could be conducted indoors, quite safely, and, once I learned about independents, at leisure with no LE concerns.

Education -- a real blessing.  Still, I do grow misty-eyed thinking about the old days.  There was a crazy and dangerous sense of fun about it.
