Being a newbie to posting and blogs I have noticed that certain individuals have a need to correct spelling and grammar errors.
this to me seems like an obsession with these corrections, since cruising the regional boards not for their enjoyment or to learn from them but only to correct.
When aasked about this, states that reading a womans website and finding errors is a turn off.
Well that is fine, but hard for me to believe that if yuo see a beautiful woman and she has great reviews but doesnt know "i" comes before "e" except after "c" or doesnt use a capital letter for pronoun, that this will stop him from seeing her because of this?
There are many notable people in this world who can not spell for sh#@%t but can hold a great conversation and have informative things to post but instead of seeing this its the misspelled word that is commented on, nothing re the post itself.
Also the boards are not persoanl websites, it is a board whre people are suppose to communicate about adult entertaining and just becasue there is a misspelled word or comma missing or in wrong place does that mean the post is worthless?
I like to read the posts and many times I learn from them even with the misspelled words.
Guess it pisses me off to see this done constantly with no word or any comunication regarding the post at all, just corrections and pointing out that they dont know the english language and insulting their inteligence.
Even seen this done when post is joking!
this is not constructive critisism its an obsession and totally missing the big picture and thats to bad if you cant enjoy the board and posts just the way they are.
Hope this does not stop anyone from posting just because they didnt get 100% for spelling, its difficult enough for ladies to come on the boards and express themselves as it is.
Some dont have multiple degrees and such but they do have valid opinions and feelings and that is what should be looked at not the grammar! just my thoughts on the spelling police!

Apropo you may as well develop a sense of humor about it cause I don't think common sense is going to stop the spelling  and grammar police.

I find it instructive and therefore learn from my mistakes.

There is no need to be defensive about it.

If we are going to take the time to write, we should honor our language - the tool that permits us to express ourselves.

By the way, the old chestnut about "i" coming before "e", except after "c" is not very helpful towards correct spelling.

There are at least a dozen common words where this is not the case, and I am excepting those words where the "ei" combination has an "ay" sound (as in neighbor and sleigh).

Some of the more common are:

heist, weird, counterfeit, stein, and my personal favorite:  albeit.

PM me if you want the full list.

By the way, sometimes "i" comes before "e"  after "c" as in the words science and prescient.

Its not defensive to think its silly and adds nothing to the dialogue and could actually dissuade some people from posting. But hey if you want people to point out  your typos or other errors nothing wrong with that. You have to admit when people only comment about the typo and do not even comment on the what they wrote that is a little silly.

not being defensive but honoring our language a tool that permits us to express ourselves?
this is not a bio or article being written, its a place for thoughts and feelings and if some people do not have the knowledge of all the linguistic rules.
some find it very hard to post their thoughts and feelings and will be put off even more if they are judged and be checked for correct spelling and usage of the language.
Also I think it is an insult to post under someones post:
I assume that english is not your native tongue?
U spelled instructive wrong does that warrant an attack like that because of a typo or just fast typing?
everyone can do with some constructive critisism but if you come to the board with the intention just to find fault is bogus.
Like I said theree are many famous people even writers who cant spell for crap and they pay to have their stuff edited but here nobody is being paid to edit posts.
just a jerk who wants to feel smart.
whats that saying about putting someone down to feel good about urself, forgot how it goes but sure catch the drift.

Typos are very important to all written form. It gives the reader something to look for so they aren't distracted by the total lack of content in your writing.

and I eventually gave up after only a few lines.

A single error or two is one thing, but typos and grammatical errors all over the place suggest you can't be bothered to even review what you write before submitting it, so why should we be bothered reading it?

Being in this country, I've gotten way too used to seeing misspelling/typos and I pretty much tolerate it, although I definitely appreciate correctly spelled and punctuated writing.  I don't obsess about correcting these either.  But you know, it's a lot easier to spell correctly these days because browsers (at least firefox) have automatic spell check - so whenever you see words underlined as you type, they are misspelled.

I do not, myself, bother to point out people's spelling or grammar errors because I don't want that to be the focus, but I do appreciated when mine are pointed out.

I agree that it could be condescending to inquire about a person's native tongue and I would not do so.

Consider:

If a person was making an argument for something using math, and miscalculated an equation, even if the bottom line justified the same point either way, would we be so forgiving?

One wag, obviously over simplifying, once stated that English is just math written in base 26.  That is something to ponder.

they show breeding and control.

I once dumped a very highly ranked Los Angeles escort because while dining, she ate with her mouth open and I could hear her chomping on her sushi.  It was disgusting.  If I wanted to eat with a cow...I'd have gone to a farm.

Believe it or not (else), the Discussion Board Message Window already has a spell checker embedded in it and those words that are misspelled are underlined in red.  I am sure that those who care, view and review their posts for spelling errors and typos before they hit 'Post Message'.

[sic] should not have been used at all since the poster was not quoting another poster:

Enclose [sic] within brackets to show that misspelled words or inappropriately used words in the quotation are not your typos or blunders; they appeared exactly that way in the source. You may include the correct form within the brackets: "The descision [sic: decision] was clear."
EXAMPLE:

"Reporters found three mispelings [sic] in the report." or "Reporters found three mispelings [sic: misspellings] in the report."

(However, it is bad manners to use this device to show that another writer is a poor speller.)

These type of posts just crack me up!!! :-D :-D

...why do you think she would put any time or effort into her performance. Poor spelling and grammar is laziness. It doesn't require much thought or effort to correctly use the english language and your writing says a lot about you. Why do you think employers require at least average writing skills? It reflects effort, intelligence and professionalism. Some guys are looking for that. A lady's website is the first impression a guy gets. It should be created with effort and care.

Just my opinion and a little defense for those who do the correcting. I don't necessarily support correcting posts publicly, but do support putting the effort in to use proper grammar and spelling. Now, let's all try harder! :)

that do not change the meaning or the message is uncalled for, but a website critique is far different than a forum post critique.

But there is no doubt that poor spelling, punctuation and sentence structure makes a post more difficult to understand and more painful to read. Therefore, one's point may not receive the circulation and consideration that it might otherwise get.

BTW, nothing personal, but your longer posts can be very hard to read.

In this world where we constantly seek to multi-task, I admit I have been guilty of the spelling error made here and there. I would cast my vote in favor of the camp that says just because a lady makes a spelling error does not diminish the bright light that shines in her mind nor does it mean she will have errors in speech as well. Sometimes life gets busy and we simply forget to dot our I's and cross our T's so be easy on us folks :)

apropo -

I agree with your thoughts in your OP. I too, still get a lot of valuable information and insights from posts even with spelling errors, typos and errors in grammar. It just makes it really hard when the post is so riddled with these "errors" that it turns them into incomprehensible gibberish.
So forgive me, I should have posted this when I added to the grammar police posts - but every time they come out and point out every little error it just makes me laugh….

I think some men are just fussy.  However, one of my dearest clients, whom I care for very much, has stated that what really sealed the deal for him was my ability to spell and use proper grammar.  You never know.

I would like to be corrected if there is a mistake on my profile.. but most people really hate being corrected (in my experience, anyway).

Anyway, it is up to the gentleman in question whether or not he wants to see a woman, on ANY basis he chooses - so while it sucks, there's not much we can do about it!

Try using paragraphs. Unending lines of text without any separation are very difficult to read, not to mention they give those of us with old eyes a headache.

I frankly don't care about the occasional misspelled word or misplaced comma, but please at least try to make your posts legible.
