They can pull off a clinical trial with that degree of careful handling, but, a clinical trial is not the real world. Expect a significant number of doses to be ineffective due to negligent handling. Medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death according to Johns Hopkins, 2016. You think the guy who let the dry ice run out for a few days is going to 'fess up?

Why would I get vaccinated?  Maybe it's because a 1 in 50 chance of dying is pretty significant.  Not sure where you're driving, but seems for most of us the chances of dying on the way over are a bit less than that.  Furthermore, its not just the risk of dying.  You really want to be that sick?  Listen to the accounts of some of the survivors.  This disease is no joke.

Maybe some of us wouldn't want to pass the virus to loved ones or people in our circle who may not be as young or as healthy as those who recover without much complications or long term effects.

All or most are well into our 60's and my family isn't the healthiest group around. All have a variety of a pre-existing condition. I'll be ok, I'm lean and mean and I'm in great health, But why risk my family. Also we don't know the underlying effects to those that survive.Scarring of the lungs, heart, early forms of dementia ...there's alot we don't know,,,So why chance it?

Yes, once the people who REALLY need it get theirs, and none of them start dropping dead from any unexpected side effects, AND the vaccine/s prove to be as effective as claimed, most likely I will get one too, but there are a few billion people at much higher risk than me, so I don't mind waiting a while.  Not to mention at some point it wouldn't surprise me if getting vaccinated doesn't become mandatory. I am hardly an anti vaxxer, I have gotten all the normal vaccines, and when I travel overseas I don't mind getting my yellow fever shots or whatever other shots are required, so I fully expect to get vaccinated "some day" I just don't expect to be first in line. lol

I get regular flu shots, why not this one?  Even if you recover and have just minor symptoms they are going to make you self-quarantine for a few weeks.  Totally messes up life.   And of course who wants to be the one to kill nana by passing it on.

There seems to be no clear definition yet on what age group they consider the start of the "most vulnerable" class.  I have heard 60, 65 and 70 thrown around as possible minimums.  The only one that would include me is 60.  I heard on the news that Pfizer's first run was only going to be 12,500,000 doses.  That's not going to go very far, so they may start the first group as minimum 70, or higher.  Haven't heard what the Modena first run is likely to be.  

I have never taken a flu vaccine and certainly no need for this.  There many risks with vaccines.  You can do some research on some recent problems with the flu vaccine in South Korea.  

The real question is, once you take the vaccine, will one be able to regain the liberties which have been so quickly taken away.

I've been hoping there will be a way to get an ID card that says I have been vaccinated and don't have to follow any of the Covid protocols anymore.  Just flash the card where needed to get in or go somewhere that would otherwise have restrictions.  I have been watching for something along these lines, but so far, have not seen anything.  What would be the point of getting the vaccine if you can still be treated like a virus carrier?

It's not just efficacy, but stability. You're not transporting hundreds of millions of vaccines while 100% maintaining the global cold chain. Lot of incompetent people in the world.

You don't have the data. How do you know hobbyists have not died? How do you know providers haven't been put in the hospital? You're obviously young (30s). Wait until you're laid flat on your back from the flu. I was just like you when I was younger until I was slammed in bed with the flu and could barely get up; massive headaches and body pain. After that I got the flu shot every year. It doesn't always 'cure' the flu, but greatly reduces the effects of the flu if you do get it. Also, why be a spreader of disease? Yes, there are side effects to vaccines, but the benefits far outweigh the risk.

BP is correct.  In my mid 30's I got clobbered.  I kept going to work (45 commute by train to Chicago and back.  No internet).  

If Dr. Turd Fauci says they are safe, they are safe.  He is got to be the most pessimistic person in this country, next to me.  

I'm not a doctor, and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Having said that, it's most likely that going forward the COVID vaccine will be an annual thing, just like the flu shot is. Viruses mutate, and thus the vaccine is likely to change periodically.

COVID vaccines are going to be a multi billion dollar business, and it's kind of like selling razor blades rather than razors, it could be the "gift that keeps on giving" for Big Pharm. Over 7 BILLION people on this planet getting a COVID shot each and every year is a HUGE business opportunity. I don't see it happening any other way than the way you have speculated.

But take a company like Pfizer, they already do $50 BILLION a year in revenue and have a market cap in excess of $200 BILLION. Yes, Pfizer stands to make billions more from their upcoming vaccine, but can you imagine what would happen to them if it were later proven that their vaccine made people sick or even worse killed people and that their vaccine were "rushed to market" Their market value would crater to zero.  

My understanding is that if you had it and had at least some symptoms, you already have the antibodies and won't need a vaccine for the time being. That may change over time, just like getting an annual flu shot, but we'll see. For now, I'd rather save the spots in line for the more at risk folk, and continue to take care of myself through good practices.

It's likely your antibodies will fade in a matter of weeks. But, your immune system is multifaceted, and your ability to create these antibodies is already learned. It's not as simple as having or not having antibodies. That might not sound optimistic, but, I am. Someone is bound to tell you that you will lose your antibodies. It's probably true, but, don't let it discourage you.

After getting a flu shot your risk of catching covid-19 skyrockets at least 36% and on up to 50% for contracting human metapneumovirus

Pfizer alone looks to be shipping 50 times that amount alone in the next month or so. Yes, they will prioritized with front line medical workers rightfully at the front of the line, but with 50 millions doses, even accounting for two doses per patient we are still talking about being able to vaccinate almost 10% of the population in the next several weeks, that is not an insignificant number.

First this vaccine was rushed, steps shortened, so odds of side effects or low effectiveness are higher.

The virus might have mutated, they typically do, but the long run of virus mutation is toward less lethal mutations.  And that's because if it kills the host it has less chance of spreading than those mutations that don't kill the host.

But given the virus has well over a 99% survival rate it isn't  a great killer as is. Last figure I see said it had a 0.7% fatality rate. The seasonal flu has a 0.6% rate. So  I am not afraid the virus well mutate to a more deadly form, but instead that it will mutate to render the rushed vaccine useless before it gets wide distribution.  

Yes, long trials exist for a reason -- CYA for government officials.  An example sited by economists is the beta blocker medicines for heart problems.  They were available for 10 years in Europe before the FDA approved them in the USA.  It is estimated that had those beta blockers been available in the USA for those 10 years, somewhere between 100,000 and 1 million lives would have been saved.  Or to put it the other way, FDA delays killed a million people.

Always remember, FDA foot dragging kills people who could have been saved.  But if they approve a drug that kills 10 people regardless of how many it saves, they get the blame.  So better to kill a million by delays that get blamed for the 10 -- that's how bureaucracy works.

Delays do kill more people than die from side effects once a vaccine is publicly available.  The Covid vaccine will be no different, except if the government pulls it off the market, millions will  die instead of a few dozen from side effects. So much for following the science.

Like others already said: don’t want to spread it to family and friends, and others. Second, it is not just about dying or living; it is more about unknown long term devastating damages to brain, nerves, lungs etc.

Great stats until it happens to you.  There have been 3 people in my orbit who have died from COVID.  Three more who have had their lungs damaged that they need supplemental oxygen to make it.
