Escorts and Taxes

This gives a lot of good reasons to file and pay taxes, plus one more I'll give:

The usual penalty for prostitution is a fine of some type, while penalties for not filing and paying taxes is a serious felony that can often lead to exorbitant fines, interest, and sometimes prison.

I always file taxes. I am considered a sole proprietor and I pay in quarterly. I keep track of all my income and expenses just like any other business. This is one misconception I see often is that people say that sex work should be legalized or decriminalized to force us to pay taxes, but many of us already do pay taxes. It is pretty much impossible to do anything without some sort of paper trail. And this is also your friendly reminder that Al Capone went down for not paying taxes, not for selling boot leg liquor.

Thanks for the Info. Over the last 28--30 years that I have been doing this I always feared that I would get arrested if I put it out there that I escorted.

Well if you're stupid enough to file your taxes and say that your job is "sex worker" or "prostitute" I'd say you deserve to get locked up.

Unless you have your own retirement plan, one reason to pay social security taxes is so you can draw on social security when you get older.

There are several reasons to pay. When you retire or become disabled and need to collect Social Security. Or so you can show that even though you are an Escort.........You are paying taxes.
