So I'm having to do a resume for one of my classes. If anyone ever asks me, I'm a dancer. On this resume, I put "Independent Entertainment Consultant". Does that sound cheesy or too vague? Can you think of something that sounds better than this?

Here are a couple of the skills I have learned in the past few years:

Dancer: How to walk in six-inch heels and not fall over. While drunk.

Escort: How to subtly tell men that anal is not on the menu

What skills have YOU picked up in the hobby?

Hmmm, well, young lady, looking at your resume, you seem qualified to be a physical therapist, a fitness instructor, an interpretive artist, a customer relations representative, a model, and a media relations consultant.

"Independent Entertainment Consultant" sounds something like "I'm-not-saying-so-you-can-guess-what"

If I was questioning you, I'd jump all over that, starting with, "OK, what did you actually DO each & every day of the last month?  Take your time, here's a calendar."

I'd just use Entertainment Consultant.

If you don't want to talk about it, don't put it on the resume especially for a class assignment.  Trying to come up with a cute title will just draw attention to it and you will end up having to explain what you mean.  If you are willing to explain it, you might as well be honest and just put Escort.  If not, just leave it off.

I agree. Also, if it's just a class assignment that won't be used in a real job/position search, but you have to justify a resume gap, you can always lie rather than be vague. Any number of waitressing, retail, or receptionist jobs may be too boring for anyone to follow up on for class assignments. Otherwise, you can always come up with a job you would be doing for a family member's or friend's business.

that's the problem with any sort of 'consultant', or 'dancer' - all widely understood to = "provider", and you want to pick your audiences carefully for that.

It's what you do!  The "how" is open to interpretation.

..."student"?  If you are taking a class, that's what you are.  Nobody can debate that!!!

Since you apparently have no issues saying that to 'anyone' then I am perplexed as to why you would not simply not state on your class resume that you are a 'Dancer'.

student or investor are good.   Lots of ladies are putting money away, and if you aren't, you should be.  Remember, you have to support me in our old age!

It's only a class assignment. Lie your ass off. Tell them anything you want. Tell them you were the Mayor of Intercourse, Pennsylvania. (A real city, by the way)

as for you, young lady... there were several good responses from the serious to the silly, and to add my 2 cents, a simple "I'm working my way through school doing temp work and odd jobs" is a real good non-answer answer :P

I helped a young lady dancer with her resume - and network into an internship which led to a position with a start-up - please PM me and I would be more than willing to help you - there are ways to word stuff that will look good

Depending on your age- you might not be expected to have anything more than summer jobs - or minimum wage jobs.... however - some creative writing can help.
