Probably the best thing to do is head over to the newbie board and start reading. There is plenty of information there. You can search for "references", and plenty of threads come up. It has been discussed extensively and repeatedly.

Basically, be patient, be polite, and keep trying respectfully with well-reviewed ladies. Sooner or later, one is likely to let you verify using an alternate method.

Providers who don't want references are often providers who will not give them out either.

First this could be a wife or so and i'm playing into her hands. In my area there are many ladies who advertise and a wife could call and say they where them to find out info on her husband. Yes it did happen to me and I have learned my lesson well.

Next if I haven't checked out the provider this could be a setup or sting with LE and I justed played into the deal. Some guys see a sexy picture, think with their little head and never check for reviews. Well I do the checking for them and if this ladies e-mail or phonenumber don't match reviews on TER I tell him. Yes I only give references to ladies on TER.

For references I need the lady's name, some form of contact info (email address, phone number, or website), the approximate date you saw her, and any little detail that will help her remember you (i.e.: you brought her flowers or a book or went to dinner).

I ask for all the above so she can actually remember who you are. This is especially important if you have a common first name (Bob, Joe, Tom), if it's been a while since you met, or if she's been busy.

I like potential friends to provide multiple references, because some ladies will not reply for various reasons (see above). I ALWAYS reply to reference requests -- as long as I can verify the lady contacting me is legit. Not replying to reference requests puts the other provider in potential jeopardy, can keep a gentleman from being able to see someone, and is, well, just plain rude.
