If you're referring to foot-treading of grapes, it's actually a gentler process than mechanical maceration. And it hasn't been done bare foot since the "I Love Lucy" days -- too many health regs and OSHA protecting people from getting the sharp ends of the vines jabbed into their feet, thus ruining a batch of juice with bloody leakage.

A village in Africa packed the condoms and threw at the elephants as they were encroaching into  the town and farms. Saw it on PBS Nature awhile back.
