It was suggested I bring this here to this board.And Whos Dr.Joe?

I know  a client that is going through this and was wondering if they shouldn't have sex while going through Therapy.I don't think he suppost to but I would appreciate  a responce from those that may know more. Also It was said to me that it's not  radiation but chemotherapy.
To me it sounds like the same thing.A link was provided for me but I think its just a link not the actuall experience.of doctors note yata yata
I need to ask this due to not wanting him to have harm come to him.

I think it is nice of you to ask for your client as he may be shy.

I don't know...  many would be too fatigued for sex.  Chemo suppresses the immune system and makes more likely to get infections & increases the seriousness of them.  (I take immune suppressing medication as a patient.)  However, I think it's permitted if the patient feels up to it & is careful of hygene.

Thanks Sabrina, and thanks to all of you who have contributed to this posting.  I just want to clear up a few questions and explain what I am going through.  First of all, I haven't started the chemo yet, but probably be experiencing that within the next few weeks. I had a cancerous tumor that was located in the upper ascending part of my colon, and this was removed in surgery that I had on July 20th.  The surgeon also removed the appendix, and a few lymph nodes as well.  He said the surgery went very well, and the rest of my organs, including liver and kidneys look fine.  Some of the lymph nodes did test positive.

I will be having a Medi-port implanted in my chest sometime next week, and will probably begin the therapy sometime soon after that.  It will be done on an outpatient basis, every two weeks, over a period of six months.  From what I have been told, I should be able to resume all normal activities even when this begins.  I am interested in hearing any experience with this.

there is no clinical reason that someone (male or female) can't have sex while undergoing treatment for cancer.  However, they probably won't feel like it.  They will be tired, nauseous, and in general feel like they have the flu or someother infection.  

In addition some may be worried about their appearance.  Lets face it, chemotherapy (in most instances) is taking a controlled does of poison.  it does not feel good.  Radiation therapy is similar - you are not going to feel well... and probably not be up to sex.

On the plus side, it might make you feel better - and provide an optimistic attitude and that could help you recover faster... and that HAS BEEN STUDIED - patients who feel better about themselves, groom themselves more and have more self image DO get better quicker and with fewer complications.

I say go for it.

That's gotta be some scary shit to go through, even with the good news after the surgery. It's also great that Sabrina is watching out for your best interests.

different things...however as far as having Sex...of course it is ok...just keep in mind he will get tired faster and it might take a little longer to get him Up..lol..but have Fun with him...when going through either Chemo or Radiation people don't want to be treated differently....treat him like You always do...but maybe just have a little more patience with him...hope this helped

My sister went through chemo for colon cancer a few years ago.  There was nothing stopping her from having sex if she wanted, but the chemo did make her very tired.

Thanks for replying.  I hope you don't mind my asking, but how long did she have to undergo the chemo?  Did she have to go back every two weeks for treatment?  I guess I have a ton of questions to ask and I will hopefully get these answered when I return to the oncologist's office for an information session this Friday.  More importantly how is she doing now?  I wish her all the best!

If I were the client, I would be playing as often as I could.  Especially if the diagnosis was unfavorable...he is now faced with a situation of get it while he can, and that may not last forever.  Cancer may be a death sentence for some, but not likely he can transmit that to anyone via sex.  Even if he is not able to perform, if you are close to your client, he may appreciate your presence in ways that go beyond the hobby as we classically define it, yet stay within it.

But, would you go to a doctor to ask about the hobby?  I am sure there are a few doctors here, but it would make more sense to take your research to a cancer or medical site. I am sure you will find plenty of information and views from both doctors and patients.

My friend went through chemo and I can tell you that after each treatment he was very very tired and the next day he was sick and nauseous all day long. This went on for 3 months and he was totally spent. I don't think anyone would have any energy left if what he experienced was normal for the therapy.
