There is a lot of HPV around - in some places I've read that a large percentage of the adult population has it.
As far as I know once you have it the vaccine doesn't help, that's why there is a push for young girls to get it. Why the same doesn't apply to boys, I don't know.
I had inquired with my doctor about it and he told me that at my age (late 50's) it wouldn't normally be given since it would probably be useless. In fact, the CDC recommends against the vaccine for anyone over the age of 26.
Not sure if there is a new version of the vaccine, but I was able to get one recently that had a deadline of 45 years old so I was able to get it just in time. When I had asked years ago, I was told 26 was the limit too.
