hi all,

i am heading to shanghai and hk next week and interested in getting some advice on providers and the scene from those who have experience there. HK providers have a bunch of reviews here, but not much info on shanghai. Hard to tell what is a complete scam from websites, etc....appreciate any tips!

Not sure if this is relevant, but in Taiwan a lot of the barbershops are brothels.  In Taipei there are lots of sexy girls working in these storefront barbershops with big glass windows so that you can check out the girls when you walk by.  If there's a butterfly sticker on the window, that denotes a brothel.  I hope that helps.  --z

i am so jealous you are going to shanghai!  i was there about 2 years ago and you'll want to stay in the jing' an/west nanjing lu area.  the strip of girlie bars on tongren lu was shut down but any expat bar in that area will attract chinese providers.  i was hit on by several girls at malones (257 tongren lu) but i already had a plan to hit the strip later that night.  also, there is a lovely message place right across the street which is full service.  i'm sorry i forgot the name but it's a white door and when you walk in you'll see big, red carpeted stairs taking you downstairs.  it's a cool spa place and they'll bring in a few girls for you to chose from.  have fun!

Yes. As Zangari said it is similar to Taiwan, Shanghai has a lot of barbershops, hairdresser shops and salons are just brothels in disguise. If you take a walk at night,  you can tell. As these shops usually have big french windows, pink or voilet neon lights and a group of girls in sexy outfits near the windows. Just like what I attached below.

But jd43_2010, if you are foreign looking to chinese and doesn't speak chinese,  I won't go to these places. You will look very suspicious and also your own safety will be in question. This kind of barbershops are really the low end of the whole spectrum.
There are SPA, KTV and Night clubs. These are better choices but I found out in hard way if you don't have local friends to guide you thorough sometimes it is hard to tell the legit SPA and KTV from the ones you know what!
And Night clubs are very similar to the one here. I'll say you will have a good chance to score a smoky hot chinese chick in night clubs for free( you still need spend a few bucks on drinks and maybe on  hotels). And if you are Caucasian, Oh my friend, no matter how bad looking you are, you odds to score is up by 500%!
If you stay in hotel, sometime the on site SPA can be the place you want to go, and sometimes in the hotel lounges you may run into your tonight's companion.
And to my experience, this normally won't happen in the international high end hotels, but happens a lot in hotels which are ranked as less than three-star. Also the chances are in these hotels during night you phone will ring. And the ladies on the other of the phone will ask if you like a massage or room service.
Anyway there are so many for you to explore. if you can speak Chinese you may find many other places to meet your needs.

Not enough time before next week's trip, but Boye De Mente has a bunch of books about working and having fun in the Far East.  E.g., "Etiquette Guide to China: Know the Rules that Make the Difference!" (Etiquette Guides) - Paperback (June 15, 2008) by Boye Lafayette De Mente. Some of his older titles ("Gentlemen's Japan") are definitely guides to the extracurriculars but I don't know how reliable the new ones are or anything about China.

Boye de Mente got his start, I believe, by writing about Tokyo massage parlors in the 60s, and his PB descriptions guided me to many a favorable encounter.  It also started me on a lifelong journey that has taken many turns and isn't over yet.  Can't vouch for his later stuff on China, but his earlier reports were accurate and most useful.

Looks like its going to be a fun trip, but more than the chinese girls I'm more interested in the russian and european offerings i am seeing on various agency sites. That is more my preference, but having a pretty tough time telling what is legit or not. Does anybody have experience or guidance if these agencies are legit or if there is a good spot to find these women there? Also, the prices they list seem way high to me (4000 CNY/hour)?? Any idea what reasonable going rate would be?
