Of course he was given the red carpet treatment. He is both a head of state and representative of a country whose population hold a lot of money in US and European banks. Were they to pull that money out, it would be disasterous. Additionally, he is allied with Western interests to some degree.

In Saudi Arabia, they lash the victim. How's that for advanced thinking?
They still live in the thirteenth century. When a woman is raped she is punished for having sex with other men besides her husband. Its similar to when some people punish their dogs for getting out of the yard.
They cannot relate the crime of rape to a woman actually being a person. Women are property.
Most of the Arab and Muslim believe this.
that is why America is the great satin.
We propose to take their property away.
Jacked up isn't it?
When you read such as....
"Lahem, also a human rights activist, told AFP on Wednesday that the court had banned him from handling the rape case and withdrew his licence to practise law because he challenged the verdict"
Folks who dislike this country should get a gander at the reality of life in other countries... I think I am gonna puke.... and it is not even noon yet.
And say the Saudis are comparable in respect for human rights.
That statement was just strange.
No wonder the rest of the world thinks that the middle east is a dumbass, fucked up, backward thinking, horrible place.
Just like our homegrown conservatives.
fails to understand what is actually happening.
There is something in common with conservatives anywhere. Opposed to change, they fear the media.
Zin, I think you've set a new record. It took you only one post to completly contradict yourself. Great job. lol
I'm just putting out the lightning rod and analyzing the strikes that I get.

"No sane person would compare the US to Saudi Arabia"
Then your very next post.
"ultra conservatives in Saudi Arabia also complain that the press has a liberal bias.
Just like our homegrown conservatives."
These are your words, are they not?
I read the report about the woman in Saudi and nothing about that country surprises me. What did sicken me to my stomach was the fact the ruler of SA was given the red carpet treatment on his visit to the UK a couple of weeks ago.
Btw, the Middle East isn't all the same, I'm living in here at the moment so I can tell you that for sure.
Although it's not my favorite place in the world, there are parts that are beautiful. Do I agree with their politics and treatment of women? No.
Hugs,
ciara
From the "Empire Strikes Back" in his honor.

they are not even in the same league. However, the notion that the judge would give her more punishment and punish her lawyer for inciting the media does bear some comment-- and comparison. Since people have noted similarity enough to call certain people "fundamentalists" no matter what religion, and to call certain people conservative or moderate no matter what culture, apparently people see some similarities fitting the description.
Fresh from reading about Zogby's detailed survey of liberals, moderates and conservatives, the judge's justification for the behavior caught my eye.
I'm simply pointing out your immediate contradiction of your own post.
Behaviors cut across nations and cultures. The nations and societies do their own recasting.
My own behavior if I were brought up in Saudi culture would be dead. So, I hardly blame America first.
By your own words, you compare their "ultra conservatives" to our "conservatives". You did this immediately after stating that no "sane person would compare the two.
Either you are not sane, or you're a hypocrite. I don't disagree with your sentimnets about the Saudies, nor do I disagree with your feeling about the muslim world, but your contradiction is there for everyone to see. You can't have it both ways, you constantly try to, and that's the very hypocrisy I am trying to point out.
Here's your logic:
1) Zin says the US doesn't compare to Saudi Arabia.
2) And Zin says there is something similar between conservatives in the US and conservatives in Saudi Arabia.
3) Therefore, Zin believes the US compares to Saudi Arabia.
4) Zin contradicts himself.
The failure is between two and three. Unless you agree that US = US Conservatives there is no contradiction. You might argue by category and say that since:
1) US Conservatives are part of the US;
2) Saudi Conservatives are part of Saudi Arabia;
3) The two sets are dissimilar (as in the term "not comparable") sharing few common elements;
4) But at least a single element between the two sets is similar.
5) Therefore the sets share many similar elements (they're comparable).
6) Therefore they are similar.
The weak spot here is between 4-5. You can't declare that I'm saying that the entire set is similar due to saying one element is similar.
Too bad I have to outline it. This should be common sense. Liberals get accused of being communists. Have you argued this much when you've heard *that* false equivalency? You might feel the same way as you do here, but how do you act, really?
several times. I push change in the technology world and have for 30 years. I'm never happy with the status quo.
But when it comes to protecting this country - especially the sound fundamental's upon which is was founded - call me conservative squared.
I've been to and seen atrocious things in other countries and, in particular, the middle east. Their warped religious beliefs allow them to treat women (and minorities)basically however they want. Rifle butt to the face of a woman who shows an ankle? Sure. Arrest, jail and "moderately torture" a Jew for being in the "wrong place?" Sure. Arrest and EXECUTE a westerner for engaging a prostitute? Yes (admittedly rare, but it happens).
And, sports fans, they want to install this religion worldwide - including all of the US. No more college football on weekends! ;-(
Just wait until the suicide bombers start going off in our malls, stadiums and schools. You'll see an immigration and border security Manhattan Project instituted by those who, now, oppose such radical ideas.
Enough politics. Show me the pussy!
A civilized country could never do this to anyone. The judge should be brought up on charges in an international court. It won't happen. As it is, if there's an afterlife, I hope he finds himself the bitch of 72 guys.
Seriously Z... sometimes your posts are really annoying. This type of humor passes to some as approval of a lifestyle that is incredibly cruel and intollerant. Liberal positions often leave no room for dissent or disagreement... and what passes for homor is often 1) not funny and 2) disrespectful. When we stop doing that, the rest of the world MIGHT get the concept that we are a united nation rather than a splintered collection of reds and blues...
it is ok to dissent and protest. it is not ok to lie, murder (and get away with it, thank you Ted Kennedy), steal and cheat. It is also not ok to speak disrespectfully of the opposition. AGain, disagree, but dis? no that is not permitted.
Conservative Political Correctness (CPC) is always hard to underscore, but having a straight man helps, so thanks.
That type of humor might be perceived in the way you say but I'd consider that stupid. Moreover, conservatives just as often leave no room for dissent or disagreement. Any strong conviction leaves no room for dissent or disagreement.
We'll take the rest to the politics board. More about dissing the opposition there.
Good idea, Let's take our conversation over there as well. Or better yet, let's just drop ours, it's not really accomplishing anything.
Sorry, just need a post to attach a pic to!!!
