When I was in high school in the marching band we got invited one year to march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade in about 88' or 89.

When our buses finally arrived in NYC we drove through Times Square where I received the biggest culture shock of my life.  Porn theaters and hookers in stilletos everywhere.  Never seen anything like this in Alabama.  I have never even a streetwalker down here.   The chaparones would not even let us go through Times Square instead we saw stupid touristy shit like Rockefeller Center and The Empire State Building.

Went back there on business bout 3 years ago and was again dumbfounded when I saw Times Square and how it had changed.  Disney and other corporate bullshit all over the place.  What was worse were all the fat ass tourist waddling through the streets with cameras around there necks and looking at maps trying to figure out which way was up.  Back in the day, these tourist probably would have had their asses handed to them.

The only thing nostalgic that remained that I remembered was Tad's Steaks.  Inicky46 I know you know about Tad's.  I went in there for a steak and I was probably the only one in there with at least a five-figure income.  As soon as I walked in there were these 2 Puerto Ricans in a shouting match.  The smell in there wasn't good either.   Walked out and walked a little bit looking for somewhere to eat that wasn't saturated with tourist.  Found Frankie and Johnnies.  Best steak I ever had.   The bone-in ribeye I had must have been taken from a fucking dinosaur it was so big.

Been back a few more times and I always take a stroll through Greenwich Village and Hells Kitchen where the tourist wont be

Need some of you older veterans tell me how you found a provider before the internet came along.

I have been only hobbying for a year and found this is way more fun and better than relationships or trying to pickup some random skank in a bar.

I used to think that only atheletes, celebrities and the uber-rich could afford escorts.  About a year ago I was looking at escort sites on the internet just for fun and came across eros.com.  I saw that donation rates were in the $300-$400 range for a very attractive woman.  My first thought was "damn I could afford that!"  After researching the escort business on the internet and becoming educated on the ettiquete and protocol that is required I made the plunge and made an appointment with a local provider for $300 an hour.  The best sex I have ever had!  Haven't looked back and never will.  Wish I discovered this in my 20s.

Its hilarious because on Friday nights when I am having beers at the local pub with my friends they are usually salivating over women who are not nearly as hot as some of the providers that I have been with.  I can only smile to myself.

Here is my question:  How did hobbyist find providers before the internet.  Escort services in the yellowpages, being in the know, or streetwalkers

I can't believe I'm old enough to remember those times, but it's true, you could go into some Adult Novelty Shops and find Magazines and Papers that advertised Modeling, Massages and etc.  Also in a lot of the Local Newspaper Classified sections there were Adult sections, no pictures, just ads.  That's the scary part about it, a lot was "Sight unseen".

Thanks for the insight Shaft1 !  I was just curious as to how this used to be done.

I have lived in Alabama all my life and have never seen an ad in any newspaper like that.  Of course this is the Bible Belt.  You probably had to know somebody who knew somebody to attain provider services.

I have worked for The Birmingham News, the largest media source in Alabama, for the past 10 years as a field supervisor over delivery personnel and have never seen an ad in the paper like this.

The city of Birmingham also has a handful of independent alternative weekly newspapers and I have never seen an ad in any of those either.  Not even a personals section

2003 or so that I started finding gals on line instead of in those ads.

I had been using ads mostly since around 1974.

It's amazing to me that out of about 100 different women I saw from those personal or massage ads, there were only 3-4 cases that I wish had not happened.  I never got busted or rolled in any of them.  I must have a hobby angel looking over me.

Of course the service was not as good overall back then.  Upsell and one and done were the rule of the day.  But still I saw some very comely and friendly gals.  I can still remember my amazement at the first time when I started to get up and dressed when a gal said:  "What's your hurry?  You still have a half hour left."  Now a full hour for the donation and the whole menu is de rigueur.

Another, I think better, way of meeting gals back then.was at massage parlors, but patience was the key.  When I found a massage provider (normally just a rub and tug situation) that I clicked with, I'd see her maybe 3-4 times until we both were comfortable with each other and then I'd suggest we meet off campus for more lucrative and interesting activities.  About half the time those overtures would work out, and I met some fantastic gals that way.  In fact, I still see two gals (both UTR) from the massage parlor days.  One I met about 25 years ago, and the other about 20 years ago.

Unfortunately LE has made MPs a risky proposition these days.

You could get them in any magazine store that also featured a lot of porn.  I used the tabloids to get the phone # of several cat-houses on the East Side of Manhattan.  You'd call, get the address, and get buzzed in.  To make sure you weren't LE there would be no business transacted until you were totally naked.
I had about 4-5 houses I frequented.  Each usually had about 5 girls working at any given time.  You picked on out and went to one of the bedrooms with her.  It was almost entirely CBJ only and no kissing, so very far from today's GFE world.  But I had a damn good time. Until fucking Giuliani came along and closed them down.

I'm sure I ate in one once and it sucked.  I preferred the Irish chain bars like McCann's, where you could get a great roast beef sandwich for lunch, sitting alongside a bunch of drunken businessmen.  And, yes, Times Square was great back then.  What you missed (but I didn't) was the live sex shows.  A couple would come out during the intermission between one porno and the next and suck and fuck right in front of you.  Sexy as hell.  Ah, for the good old days....

I lived there prior to the late 90s.  There was a then-famous tabloid, sold in dirty book stores, called "Screw" published by a guy named Al Goldstein.  I first picked it up in the 70s, when I was in my 20s, and it contained classifieds in the back that were carefully worded:  "Sheer stockings and garters.  Call...."  for example.

There were brothels all over the city.  Many were fly-by-night operations with flimsy "rooms" that had partitions made of plywood and a tiny, single bed.  Others were more sumptuous.  I used to go to a townhouse on East 48th Street that typically had three to five girls available.  You'd call and make an appointment, show up and ring the bell, and go upstairs to a living room.  The phone girl or madam would escort the girls available into the room and you'd have about three minutes to chat.  They they'd leave.  The phone girl would come back in and ask for your selection.  Then the girl of your choice would take you upstairs to a bedroom with a queen sized bed, and you'd get to spend an hour (or more if you paid) with her.  The girls at that establishment were top notch -- young, beautiful and very skilled.  One of the hallmarks of that place is that the girls did DFK.  In the old days, particularly with streetwalkers, kissing was forbidden.

Unlike these days, when you can have dinner dates and actually get to know the girls, everything then was behind closed doors.  A girl would not see you outside the room or off the clock unless the brothel arranged an outcall, and that was strictly monitored.

But of course, I managed to hit it off with one, and we had a torrid off-the-clock affair for seven months.

Those were the days....

Hi There

New York City is a dirty and cold city work. The clients are demanding the agents are controlling.
Yuk I will never go there again.

Dirty bastards.

Alley

Believe it or not the yellow pages. And here in LA publications such as the LA Weekly.  Neither was reliable--maybe a 50% success rate with YP and 30% with the LAW.  Ripped off a few times but managed to find a couple of agencies that were good while they lasted.  In a word it sucked!

The Reader is a local neighborhood weekly newspaper that had a Massage Section that eventually turned into an Adult Section. I would read an ad that was interesting. Call the number and hoped things went well. For the most part it did. But I've had my run ins with bad Providers.

Some cities allow escort listings in the yellow pages...New Orleans is one of them. That's how things used to be...late night, spur of the moment, drunken calls with no screening other than the room number and the guy's name to check it out with the front desk. Hell, some people still screen like that today.

I remember thumbing through the yellow pages ads as a kid and being drawn to the escort agency, adult book/cinema and private investigator ads! Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

Also, the yellow pages of this old thing called a "phone book," personal ads in classified newspapers, (Some regular type papers with "personal" sections, and some strictly personal papers actually catering to more "underground" tastes, and massage parlors.

sit down and order a drink, and viola, a woman or two would come and sit with you. After the "are you looking for company?" chat, you would be told how much and where to go--usually a dive motel up the street. A fuck & suck was like 20 bucks back then. Again, before aids so everything was BB. Only did it once or twice until I got older and the well went dry at home.

I didn't know they still made them! I brought them home and looked at them and there are many ads in there! I wonder if some of the girls on there are on here too?

as our other brothers have indicated, cheap rags held classifieds which required a translator to interpret (that is they did no use our standard abbreviations BBBJ, FS, GFE, etc.  but back then, much as now, I frequented strip clubs so I would drive around looking for strip clubs and would oft see Massage and Hot tub establishments where much as Nevada style, you would walk in and a bevy of ladies would line up and off you would go with your pick. There was a formal procedure, they would offer a legit massage or soak in the tub.  after about 15 min of that, the lady would leave, and the "madam' would return with a form which you   would sign saying you received a legit service (massage or soak).  The lady would then return and say, "I'm off duty now, and I want to have fun!"  You then negotiated for "services!"

But I also arranged meetings with strippers... wound up dating one for real... we went skiing in Colorado witih her daughter, who also "provided."  Back then I was very innocent, and was aghast once I realized she was soliciting right in front of my nose, her daughter's booyfriend (also on the trip) pulled me aside and asked me 'how else did you think they were going to pay their share of the trip!??"  Ahh, the good old days of my innocence.

I'm shocked at nothing!  Bwahahaha....

There was also the referal system where either a lady or gent who knew what you did would offer to "introduce" you to a provider.... So yea it happened.  Watch the new version of "the great Gatsby"  good description of "services" being introduced to Nick!!! (Tobey Mcguire).

Back in ancient times, you went to your local temple... as the female attendants were often providers... so a small sacrifice.  That's why to this day, the donation is in a white envelope - so that it represents a little white lamb... Bwahahahahaha...

n NY it was adult store 'penny-savers', yellow pages and still, the Village Voice.  Here in Wisconsin it was the Isthmus and yellow pages
