The public at large shed the stereotypes and prejudices and get informed.
Just because someone gained some weight and them lost it, doesn't mean their experienace has anything in common with what faces a person suffering from chronic obesity.
As average people, what do we know about insulin, ghrelin, and leptin? about Metobolic Syndome X? Even type II diabetes? About Sleep Disorders? Before you talk about how someone should eat less and lose weight, you might want to learn about some of the things mentioned.
(Wait! Why is HalfHour mentioning sleep? This is about being fat! -- Well, friend do some credible research and you may be surprised!)
From today's NY TIMES;
in Brief:
--Weight control is not simply a matter of willpower. Genes help determine the body's "set point," which is defended by the brain.
--Dieting alone is rarely successful, and relapse rates are high.
--Moderate exercise, too, rarely results in substantive long-term weight loss, which requires intensive exercise.

BTW, as usual johngaltnh has shown himself to be a voice on intelligent and informed opinion on this board. Props to you on that, johngaltnh !
on a few occasions I have met with men that are obese. Keeping in mind that I am not perfect and not insinuating that I am. I was just reading some articles because sex can be difficult with larger men. More often than not, intercourse is not even an option. Apparently what happens is the penis gets buried inside what is called a fat pad. In some instances the penis is actually hidden. I mean you cannot see it at all (when soft). When the fella gets hard it is barely 1 inch long and very hard to orally copulate. I have to assume for the man this is both embarrassing and frustrating. Thus my question...why not lose weight to have a better sex life and overall life in general? Some of you know I am on my own personal quest to get back into great shape. I KNOW how truly hard it is. I would love to be able to satisfy all men as best I can. However and again, it is very difficult when most of your winkie isn't available. ![]()
What you're describing is commonly known as the "Dickie-Do" disease. That's when the belly sticks out farther than the "dickie do." And yes, it is a growing problem. Seriously, if for no other reason than to stay alive, men and women need to start losing weight. High blood pressure, diabetes, heart issues, breathing difficulties all stem from obesity.
This is so funny. I've had to deal with obese men as well, and what you're saying about penis size is SOOO true.
I have a regular blog and it's spooky how coincidental this is, my Friday post is all about having to deal with extra-extra-large men.
I'd love to give you the link as this is one of my favorite (and hilarious) stories, but I understand those kinds of links are frowned upon. But if you search Alex Lieberman Escort you'll find me!
kisses, Alex
but the answer is extremely complicated. I'm sure that the gentlemen who are too heavy to properly have sex are also embarrassed about many other aspects of their lives. But you do have a nice idea . . . maybe a free fuck for every 50 lbs you lose. I would think it would be good incentive.
Are you sure that fat pad wasn't just a curvy pad?
Seriously, I know what you mean. It's like trying to get a little turtle head to stay out of the shell. Any movement and the turtle head disappears.
And for the record, truly curvy women rock.
Examples of true curvy women:

Eve Mendes

Spare us all if your this big. Its SO embarrassing and frustrating for me as a escort to try and first off find it, second of get it hard, and the final event, well usually theres no final event and the session ends with this isn't going to work. I understand losing weight is hard... But please take your health in mind, and the sanity of the escorts you see.
I speak as a very large man. I am 365lb. There is a great deal of built in self loathing that comes with that or most likely the cause of getting that huge. When you get up wish you were dead it is hard to change. I often think that I am not worth it and I don't deserve to be happy or thin. This self hatred is crippling. I am facing my demons and have lost 35lb. I am now trying to lose the pounds but self destructive thoughts are always there. I have to lose the pounds I know but self defecating demons are harder to face than diet and exercise but must be done to make them stick. I must rewrite me into someone I love not hate. Part of me thinks this is the real reason my wife has returned to escorting although she denies it I do not satisfy her in bed because of my 180 extra pounds of fat. I do not blame her for being unhappy about me as a lover. I wouldn't be ether. I do not need any advice I am just giving an answer to the OP' s question. At least in my case.
what you're doin...I just lost 20 lbs and am trying to lose another 20...truth be told it SUCKS...if it makes you feel any better big guys are great pussy lickers ![]()
That is what my wife says. lol
Losing weight is the hardest thing because it takes so much effort to melt years of fat accumulated over your bones.
My client got a group of his friends - 10 guys, all overweight - and each one put 2 thousand dollars into a "fat camp" fund.
They all joined a gym and started a diet and exercise program too. They all made a commitment to follow it for year.
The one who loses the most weight by January 1st / 2011, will get the whole jackpot.
I think is a great idea, to find some friends with the same weight struggle and have a big money prize waiting to be claimed.
After a year, you will get used to work on your fitness, your lifestyle is changed forever and you will not go back to the old ways.
appetite suppressant used in the past to lose 30 pounds and kept it off with exercise and sticking to healthy eating. Gave me the boost and energy I needed to really get the weight off.
There are plenty of people that have had these surgeries and the complications that come with them AND gained back the weight.
Education in food choices/amounts and exercise is where it's at. You look at the food choices of fat people...I do every time I go to the supermarket. I see some fat person and glance in their cart...all the shit that makes you fat is sitting in that cart.
Unfortunately, we as a culture want instant gratification. If a person has been overweight for 10 years, and then expects to lose it in 6 months and keep it off...well forget it...not going to happen.
The fat set point can be altered but you need to be very diligent and it takes time and discipline. You essentially are manipulating your body chemistry and structures in order to do this.
What pisses me off about very overwieght people is their push to have society fully accept their unhealthy lifestyles. And by this I mean making movie theater seats larger, booths in restaurants larger and even airline seats larger. At the increased for the rest of us to do so. It would be better for all concerned if they just lost the weight or were made to pay more for things as a sort of incentive. Higher health insurance rates, two tickets on airlines if they need two seats and likewise in movie theaters.
Then maybe, just maybe they would see fit to not shovel high calorie, high fat foods in quantities that could feed a small nation, into their mouths and get of their butts and move.
Glandular and endocrine problems aside...those numbers are small compared to those who got fat by eating shit food.
And for those about to lynch me...I did a personal experiment 10 years ago where I purposefully gained weight...50 pounds to be exact. It took me three months to do it on a steady diet of fast food...my choice was Wendy's. And I stopped exercising. Oh I got fat and miserable. Then I added exercise and completely changed my diet and guess what???? I lost all the weight over a three month period.
So amount and choice got me fat...nothing else. Had I kept this up for years, I am certain I would have gotten to gargantuan proportion and my endocrine system would have been all out of wack...only AFTER I had done sufficient damage with poor choices and no exercise.
You are also very correct. lol
Ok, let me first stipulate that there are "some" people who have no choice, due to medical reasons, Thyroid problems, etc.
That said, the overwhelming majority of fat people are fat due to personal choices. I am sick and tired of hearing excuses about "why I'm fat" or that we should be more accepting of fat people. I am perfectly accepting of fat people until their fat spills over into my airline seat, or they expect me to subsidize their health issues. Oh yeah, and when fat broads expect me to fuck them. lmao
As I get older it is becoming more and more difficult for me to maintain the waist size I had in my youth. I have accepted the fact that I will probably never fit into a 32 waist ever again in my life, but does that mean I should let myself go and become a 40 waist?
I struggle to maintain a 33-34 inch waist, I do so because partly because of the health issue, but truth be told, I do so mainly because I like younger women. I don't want to become a repulsive old man that no younger woman would ever want to fuck. So I get off my lazy ass and excercise.
Yes for some people it is harder than others, but what ever happened to personal pride. Instead of spending all this energy making excuses about why a person is fat, get up off your fat ass and do something about it. I do, and I am admittedly a lazy fuck, but I am a lazy fuck who likes to fuck hot women, and the thought of them being repulsed by my fat ass is simply unacceptable to me.
Oh Lord, here I thought I was going to have to poop out of two butt holes after you ripped me another, but to my surprise I can be happy with the one.
Everyone has their motivation...you have yours and a very good one at that and I have mine. In other words we have found very good reasons why we'd never let ourselves go.
I had to laugh about you not wanting to fuck fat broads...I will definitely see over weight guys...for money, but in my private life, hell no. Why, because I am not attracted to fat people. I will have them as friends but to be intimate with...absolutely no chemistry or attraction whatsoever.
I know how hard it is..I watch what I put in my mouth and exercise daily to keep myself lean and very toned and attractive. I've asked friends to shoot my ass if ever I got fat.
And god help the airlines if they get their way and wider seating is put in place. There goes the price of airfares all because people are freaking lazy and self indulgent.
I do feel for those who have legitimate health reason that have caused them to gain weight...not those with health reasons caused by bad habits that have significantly increased their weight.
I am liking you more and more GaGs smarter brother.
That viewpoint is uneducated at best.
In case you didn't read the current scientific summary in the NYTIMES, here it is
==Weight control is not simply a matter of willpower. Genes help determine the body's "set point," which is defended by the brain.
==Dieting alone is rarely successful, and relapse rates are high.
==Moderate exercise, too, rarely results in substantive long-term weight loss, which requires intensive exercise.
==And obesity, the terrible new epidemic of the developed world, is almost impossible to cure.
It is very easy for people to adopt it. It certainly makes one feel superior, or at least normal when the look at someone else, and identify the other's perceived personal failures, and them boldly proclaim, "Look at me! I am not like that."
The definitive indicator to me that this viewpoint is based in a feeling of personal superiority in that people who have it feel they know better that the worlwide collective of scientists who are focusing on that field.
Personally, that is what i am sick aned tired of hearing.
Don't try to sell that load of crap to me.
No one seems to want to take responibilty for their own actions anymore. You probably believe that criminals are responsible for their own actions either.
If you eat like a pig and grow to the size of a whale, don't expect me to listen to your excuses that it's genetic or some other drivel.
The percentage of people that have no control over their weight due to conditions like Thyroid imbalances is such a small percentage of fat fucks as to be inconsequential. To the rest of the fat fucks out there, get off your lazy ass and quit blaming McDonalds for making the fattening food, blame yourself for eating it.
because no matter what the evidence is, evein if they see it with their own eyes, they will not change their beliefs, they will give up their faith. Especially because means admitting they were wrong, and would bring tremedous dissapointment and shame. Just think of al those folks who think man has been around for only 6000 years.
This is not about me or the New York Times It is about the collective of doctors, scientistist and researchers aroung the globe. What they have discovered is hard science.
And you sir, are a man or great faith!![]()
Are one of the big hidden problems in weight loss. One doc I know, a big proponent of the HCG diet, told me how when he was a kid working on the cattle ranches the cows diet was high in pesticides to slow metabolism and fatten them faster. The pesticides hide in the fat cells and are difficult to expel. The reason hcg works is that it breaks down the fat cell and you do saunas to sweat it out. When you think about our daily exposure to pesticides, is it any wonder modern people retain so much weight? I'm not saying it's the only cause, but definitely one that is overlooked.
I used to be 60 lbs heavier. After loosing the weight I was able to go deeper and maintain a harder erection. I wish I would have known that was the benefit! I would have lost weight years ago!
Einstein essentially defined insanity as trying the same thing over and over, expecting different results.
Obviously, if 95% of diet attempts fail; the odds aren't good -- and there is probably a reason.
While I'm not obese myself; I simply don't buy the negative stereotypes about lack of self control, etc. I have some obese friends who are high achievers in everything else in their life. CLEARLY the problem is more complex than simply telling people to eat less.
I think it is high time for the medical community (among others) to stop with the "diet" message that is clearly failing -- and look deeper.
It is my belief that the dietary rules promulgated my medical authorities, health food authorities and even our government (including being promulgated in free lunch programs and WIC) are fundamentally flawed. If they were not flawed, we would not be seeing an INCREASE in the very problems they are expecting to solve.
Obviously, our overall understanding and the so-called "conventional wisdom" is lacking -- and many people are being harmed as a result.
I agree the problem for becoming obese could be very complex, and the psych. problems of some of the obese have been stated here by others. But the simple truth is that eating less is the major key to all dieting, getting skinny, thinner, healthier...etc.
Most of the medical rules about healthy eating are correct, but like anything else it requires discipline. Look all of us know that a bannana is good and a twinkie is bad, but most of us (me included) reach for the twinkie.
The answer is simple: Eat a healthy diet, exercise, get plenty of sleep.
BUT NO ONE SAYS THAT ITS EASY!!!!!
metabolism.
It's called excercise.
You do not actually burn off many calories excercising. That's not the benefit. The benefit is that you raise your metabolic rate. So that even sitting around or sleeping, your body burns more calories every minute.
You also build lean muscle mass. Which burns more calories, even at rest.
It is more effective to emphasize a safe excercise program than it is to emphasize calorie restrictions.
Ironically, when someone begins to feel more energetic and healthier - when they see progress in terms of what they are able to achieve in an excercise program - this gives them motivation to *improve their eating habits*. Eliminate un-needed junk and high fat foods. Eat *healthier*.
At times during my military career, I worked with servicemen and women who had a hard time keeping an appropriate fitness level. REMFs mostly (LOL). Cardiovascular conditioning, weight training, flexibility and endurance are the proper focus. The rest will follow.
That is what has always worked for me.
The problem comes that once people reach a certain threshold, exercise of the sorts we would do becomes very inefficient and impractical.
Great post. I agree.
Unless you are meticulous in your food choices, a high protein diet is often also high in fat. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Fat is calorie dense but is otherwise inert. In other words, consumed fat will not make one retain body fat unless caloric intake is substantially greater than calories burned. The real culprit is sugar. Refined sugars and simple carbs (instead of complex carbs) are the worst.
Solution...exersize. As you said...build some muscle and increase that metabolic rate. Combine that with a healthy diet devoid of simple sugars and watch the changes.

doing it is the difficult part. Doing it, meaning, what is the basis of your motivation to lose weight, and the intensity of that motivation. Most people have motives that conflict with losing weight. The first time I lost 50 lbs. was when preparing to leave the Navy. I had read that employers didn't readily hire people who were overweight. I was highly motivated get out of the service and find a job. Many years later, I had gained the 50 lbs. back. Once again I realized, while entering in my new career, people were not going to take me seriously if I was overweight. I lost the 50 lbs., and have kept it off ever since.
...instead of a condom.
LOL
And it's really hard to beat the guy off. I mean, using a pair of tweezers is not my thing.
1. Men who are obease typically lose between 1 and 3 inches of penis.. ( not acutally lost but hiding)
2. Not everyone can just diet and lose weight it is often a metabolic disorder, can be related to Thyroid, hormone imbalance and other things..
3. Lap band and Gastric bypass.. is serious stuff and works really well for those that truly need it. It takes up to 1 year to get approved for the surgery and then you must go through psych evaluations, stop smoking and take food and take classes on how to live your life after..
it takes about 2 years to heal from the gastric bypass as well. most people develop at least one complication and some complications can be deadly..
Obesity is going to get worse before it gets better....
It boils down to lifestyle.
The problem is that people do not want to change.
It is a complex problem which the bigger you ge tthe less active you become and the more you tend to eat. The bigger you the less active. This can be a vicious circle.
It is real simple.
It is your basic story problem.
How many calories you take in verse how many you burn.
Crappy foods have more calories.
The best diet advice I ever heard was real simple.
"put the fork down"
I will add to this:
No fast food.
That tired old rationale is just that, tired and old, And wrong. Read today's NY Times and you will find out what the real deal is.
It's a sensitive subject but it is not so easy to do. One should never assume the man is a lazy slob because that is in most cases not true. (I do think though you might be referring to 'grossly obesity' as that is where more problems tend to get in the way of having excellent sex.)
However, if a man has a big belly it stems from a variety of reasons, some of which one might not be able to have control over frankly, but with this encounter I move the stomach out of the way, enabling more blood flow to the pleasurable area in question. In most cases all goes as well as with someone who doesn't have a big stomach.
diabetes
