Hobbyist is correct.  It's actually a pet peeve of mine as well, seeing all the people who spell it "hobbiest" - no no no!!!

correct spelling (and an organized desk) are the products of a sick mind lacking in creativity and charm.  (My spell check function is, for example,a bit paranoid, judgmental, and rigid.)
