The above is a short version of a phone call the guy made to his son who's GF is black.  While I deplore the racism, I do have some issues with a guy who loses his gig because his son taped a private conversation and sold it to the Enquirer.

But in general I have no issue at all with a racist losing their job because of their deplorable views.

you find out that he is NOT racist... but this is an issue over language....  We've become so "politically correct" that we allow one group of people the luxury of using a word while punishing another group of people for using the same exact word - only because of the color of their skin.... I find THAT racist.

Dawg - got it correct in the phone conversation - in that he says - we do not use that word as a slur aimed at a group of people - rather it is a word that we just use... and rather than be misunderstood- he would rather not have someone around the set who might be offended -

in short - he was sensitive to ethnic sensitivities.

Wow!  kinda makes you wonder...

There is a long and short version of the audio at the Enquirer site below.

Of course the irony is that what he says he is trying to avoid, he caused by this call.

I want to know how much money the son received.  "Enquiring minds want to know."

So rather than NOT use the word that he knows is offensive and could cost him everything, he just won't allow ANY Blacks around him since they might be offended by the racial slur that he and his crew use regularly.  And that's NOT racism?

I love people when they show their true colors. It's what we all should be about. I'd rather know that you see me as a piece of scum rather than break bread with you and have a little wine only to find out my ancestry offends you. I'm old enough to know that people like Dog Chapman will always exist. Trying to rid them from the planet is a waste of energy. Trying legislate them is also wrong. If his views never evolve I am ok with that too. What I despise in him though is the fact that he told his son you CAN'T work with the family biz unless you dump her. It's likely that they won't work out anyway, young love rarely does, but Dog and the people of his ilk need to know that you can't legislate love no matter what package a person comes in... Notice his abject hatred of "whores" too... What if she was black and a whore... think Dog might have shot his own son? Stranger shit happens on planet Earth.

Bizzaro not quite the logic that will win you the Nobel Prize for race relations, but I get your drift. So I guess no one on the film crew is of African ancestry either? I found his diatribe abusive to his son. Is that not enough? You see it's not the word as much as the historical context of where Dog clearly lands. So he and his band have no self control? You work around people of color I suspect and you know that it's not something you say even if others use it freely... It's a context sensitive word and if you use it in a demeaning way, people will call you on it. Imus didn't say nappy-headed nigger hoes or he'd have no chance of making it back to the airways, but he'll be back and if he lives long enough, he'll offend again and that's life. To attempt to teach your children your racially insensitive values only perpetuates the stereotypes and other bullshit that been passed down through the ages.

I think Dog faces a same dilemma that many of us over 40 white guys face. We can't use the "N" word like others can ... because as a group we are actually held responsible (rightly so) for what we say unlike many others who use it and excuse themselves.

I don't know what the deal is with Dog's son or his son's girl friend and to make a judgment call based only on this excerpt is a huge assumption.

We simply would need more facts.

The use of the word is contextual. If I yelled it out at work I'd be fired the same day. I know it may seem that only white guys take it in the ear these days, but that just another "on message" hype that many people are using to rationalize their poor taste let alone other bullshit happening in this county. We are the most race and color conscious nation on the fucking planet. We get bent out of shape for all manner of things and yes, sadly the over 40s white guys seems to get singled out. Yet, you seem to question that it's ok to perpetuate the shit as something we should respect. Dog hates people of color; his hatred is historical not based shit anyone's done to him. Perhaps his father and grandfather felt the same way. Stereotypes earn their truth through fear and loathing... they are not completely false, but they are completely shallow.

is someone using a word (i.e. the "n" word), excusing themselves and then being offended if I do the same thing.

I don't care for the word but I care even less for those who would use it or some other slur and say its alright because "I'm not like you, I'm _____ and so it is okay if I say it."

Don't excuse yourself. If you want to get rid of these terms, make it inexcusable for everyone.

ALL language use is about context. I don't excuse black people for using it freely, but I understand the difference between "you my nigga" and "fucking niggers" given the context. There are hundreds of words attributed to all races that are equally offensive, yet most none of the them have the historical context and hatred that accompanies nigger. I hear non Jewish people use the word "JEW" in an offensive tone and it is no less irritating... I also don't care for red neck, wet back, kike, spik, or any number of them, so wrong is wrong and that we agree. But if you or I say we don't like to work with niggers we are both fired.

against the Enquirer & his son, like that fella that sued the Westboro Baptists for picketing his son's funeral.

But (a) what does it accomplish to sue your own family?  Better to just beat the shit out of the little turd, like you should have 30 years ago.
and (b) a lot of this 'emotional damage' shit is basically punitive damages anyway.  Nobody's gonna feel sorry for Dog.

But the Dog Pere et Fils could gang up on the Enquirer.  Claim the son is soft-minded and coerced.  Everybody can see that.  Make the Enquirer pay enough to get their trailer back & retire too.  I don't hire bail bondsmen for their philosophy skills.

The problem comes when it's used as an insult. That's where the degradation is associated back to race. Among peers, it has usually a different meaning.

The language does need a term that insulting, though. If we weren't uneasy about it, it wouldn't be a good insult, would it?

Dog proposed a racist solution to a racist problem, and spoke about it like a racist. Never mind he was doing it defensively. Let me put his problem in a nutshell: my staff and I can't stop saying "nigger" so the "nigger's" gotta go.

I can conclude from this that the word "nigger" is  a pretty common habit with him and his staff, and that it won't be an easy habit to break. Sounds racist to me to keep that word close at hand.

It's a lesson on why the media shouldn't look to make cowboy LE into heroes. An open mike could have caused this guy to fall.

His son "outing" him does remind me of 1984, but it's not Big Brother inciting the public, it's the public itself that makes the judgment. I'd like to say it's none of my business, but once I've heard it,  there's no way I can have a good opinion of Dog.

Let those of us among us without sin cast the first stone.

How sharper than a serpent's tooth is an ungrateful child.

What this fellow says is offensive, and hateful, but in the absence of a full understanding of his motives we ought to restrict ourselves to  hating the sin, not the sinner.

Though i'm wondering about his parenting skills, as a son who outs his dad for profit ain't never a pretty picture.

And yes, it is possible that Dawg is a stone cold, out-and-out racist. But that's his right, as well as his failing as a human being.  His words hurt, but are they ever translated into comparable action?  Or do we all just surrender en masse to the Thought Police?

Meanwhile, i'm going over to Eros to scope out some ebony providers.  I see that Reese Rivera is in town, so...

at anytime for any purpose.  Which is one of the many reasons I dislike much of rap and the group of thugs who promote, create and make it.

WRT the logic of a Nobel Prize, I have offered much on that previously.  The shame of neglecting R. Franklin - the shame of Shockly... and others.  Get over it, I think that the Nobel Prize has been a sham for at least 3 decades.

Dawg comes from an underbelly of society - that is a fact.  Would that it were not so, but it is so.  He knows it... but he realizes that it is real...  so many libs fail to realize that there is an idealized world, and then there is the world in which we live.  At least Dawg has a self awareness that I find absent in many.

By the way, there was no diatribe against his son, it was plain and simple that he thought that she would find the language used on his set offensive.  but diatribe against a child?  try Baldwin's incredible phone message to his 11-yr old daughter... NOW that is a diatribe and THAT is offensive...

you control language - you control "how" people think.  Remove a word or two, and voila - precipitation changes...  and our perception of it changes... or medicine changes or whatever...

Make no mistake, that word - we do not need.... but removing it from our vocabulary will take time... that black people do not cease using a term that is so derogatory to them as a people puzzles me.  Similarly, I dislike other terms that tend to segregate a race or ethnic group in a demeaning manner... such that they can become subhumanized.... like Jews with Hitler.

Two people at equal ethnic standing can use an insult like that without the same sting as hearing it from a Caucasian ethnic group. There's an element of meaning missing in the first case, that element is purported "superiority," of asserting a privileged class that can judge somebody a "nigger" with authority.

It disturbs me that black people would use it, though, but it's not like the race will all act the same, nor that they can be dictated to about it with good results, from whites.

It bothers me more, though, when white people then imitate it back.

I have to say, though, that things are far better that in the 60s and 70s when I heard the word daily. Now it can be a year before I hear it twice.

Thankfully!

This might be his undoing, but if you read a little on his past and how he got on TV, it's amazing a chanel like A&E would have anything to do with him

He has something like 17 armed robbery convictions and a murder conviction in Texas, he is in Hawaii because it is the only state that allows felon's to be licensed as bail bondsmen.

And the Andrew Luster case, where he with-held information from the FBI in order to pursue Luster into Mexico where bounty hunting is illegal and put a lot of people at risk to basically KIDNAP a felon off a busy street in Mexico. Even if he had written a bond on Luster, it is illegal in Mexico.....what he did was like an 1880's cowboy chasing down a bounty, but he ended up arrested himself.

He has just made a total joke and travesty on international law and his own profession and needs to GO AWAY no matter what the reason!

the fact of the matter whether people want to admit it or not,is that a black person can spout of any litany of racist epithets towards whites or anybody else but have no repercussions, whearas any white person loses everything if he dares to say anything remotely "racist." yep, dog is probably racist, but so are a whole lot of black people who say much worse and have nothing done to them.
sorry, this is the inconvenient truth
