How do we actually know that you are who you claim to be?

Every so often someone will come on here and under the guise of journalism or a scholastic paper try to collect information.

Sometimes that information is used against us.

For example, with CL closed down, maybe some enemies of our hobby want to know what other sites might be the most effective in terms of pouring some molten lead down the asses of the operators of that site.

Until such time as we know who we are talking to, I advise all not to share TMI with anyone.

Safety is its own reward.

I'm a reporter for Salon.com and am hoping to interview men who use the Web to find sex-for-pay. I will keep you anonymous and simply want to chat about how the disappearance of Craigslist's adult services has impacted your search for sex.

Had anyone here used Craigslist to look for sex? If not, how come? Is CL for amateurs (i.e. those who aren't dedicated hobbyists)?

To those of you who haven't been impacted at all: Was there a time when you were using CL? Why, why not?

Tracy. You are likely going to get more information if you open a thread here and ask for replies from those who want to reply. The removal of Craiglist ads will have no impact upon the activities of men who search for sex. There are a number of reasons why. First, other sites that exist will take the business. Second, sites that currently do not exists will spring up or likely already have sprung up to serve needs that the closed Craigslist section is no longer serving. Third, sites like Craigslist serve a segment of men who search for sex, segments outside the Craigslist group have noted the closure only in terms of what happens next. Any Attorney General that wants to end the supply of sex ads would have to shut down the internet, in every country on this planet.  

My sense is that what the AGs that pushed Craigslist to shutdown it's adult section have done is make it more likely that the very problems the AGs stated they want to stop will not only continue, but the worst of those problems will become more virulent, prevalent and damaging to the people that are being victimized by problems like child prostitution and forced prostitution. The services WILL BE supplied to men that are looking for such services. The one change is that instead of a company like Craigslist's owner that can be influenced and encouraged to police such activities, state Attorney Generals and even the US Justice department will face technologically proficient, mobile organizations that operate across national boundaries, from safe havens outside the reach and influence of law enforcers of all stripes, even Interpol.  

One misconception that people in your line of work and the public at large have about us is that we are the same. We span the widths, lengths and depths of society. We could be a teacher that taugh you in high school or college, we could be you male coworkers, family members or neighbors. We could be police officers, judges, lawyers, doctors, scientists, engineers, financiers, CEOs, construction workers, the guy who served you latte last time you purchased, on and on to infinity. While there is certainly an element of miscreants among us, what we are not, by and large, are perverts. You may disagree with the last observation, that is your right. But if you seriously and open mindedly spend any time studying and understanding us, our interests, work and motivations for searching for sex and the same of the women who advertise mythical offerings, you will see that we are not really different from you in terms of how we live 99.95% of the rest of our lives.

Has a high percentage of scammers and people who are down right dangerous posting ads. It is a site that most of people in this forum avoid.

No impact; too low rent to use.  There is already a replacement to be found under the more reliable TER, anyway.

My reason is that I look for educated, ambitious providers. Highly cultured, hot providers are a bonus whenever I find them. I have looked at Craigslist ads during the distant past. The frequent, in ad after ad, spelling and grammar mistakes were enough to send me figuratively running from the site.

They are back in different format where you have to sign up. Never used them and I don't believe anyone is coming forward.

There are 1000's of board out there doing the same thing, why just focus on CL?

I found my first two providers last year on CL and things worked out OK.  Guess I was lucky.

Won't miss it though, as I discovered other resources (like this place) a month or so ago when I decided to hobby again.  I'm not particularly active, but feel better prepared than ever to get value for my dollars when I'm able to schedule a session.

If enforcers wanted to and thought that they could succeed in assaulting this site and shutting it down, they would have launched a full scale assault. Salon.com has a reputation for writing indepth articles on social issues. The issue of prostitution in all it's forms and the reaction of politicians is certainly a worthy social issue.

I fail to see how one person claiming to be a reporter can collect information that law enforcement already here under cover has not or can not collect. TER is an open forum. Even a VIP membership is an open forum. Law enforcers can emulate any class of member on this site, hobbyists, provider, name it. How can you protect from a threat that can internalize itself here, using your logic?

I answered the question that was asked. I have no intention of exchanging email, just as I would not give my name and TER handle to a provider as a package. Maintaining a degree of seperation from my site persona and my real life persona is one way I make finding who I am difficult. But I am aware that if the US Justice department or the State Attorney office in my state wanted to discuss my activities on this site with me, they would craft a way to find me.

I read your article on Salon.com on the downturn and prostitution.  It was entertaining and well written.

As far as your question, this is really a different place than CL, so you're asking the wrong people.  It is like asking an Olive Garden executive about the bankruptcy of Boston Market - seems like someone who could give an intelligent opinion, but completely different businesses.

You want to find the impact of CL, you'll need to find CL customers.  You won't find them here.  So just like asking an Olive Garden exec, you got a few posts with real insight - just from the point of view of someone completely outside your target.  If that's what you're looking for then you got it.

So Tracy, I think you would be taken more seriously if you posted up a little hidden page on your salon.com site just for us and then posted the link for us here.  

If it's really you, start a column asking, "I like to keep my socks on during sex.  What's the matter with me?"
and then respond to this post with the link.

pointing out that as we are involving in an activity that raises hackles of LE, we have to consider what information we share.

By indicating what sites might be of interest to hobbyist now that CL is banned this could lead LE to start harrassing those sites.

Since people have vouched for the OP's legitamacy, I have no problem with this now.

You'd do better be going back to school and researching Prostitution as an independent study project.

Of course it is the oldest profession in existence. Why should things things change after all these thousands of years? Do you seriously thing some eClassified's being taken down is going to stop men from buying pussy, and for women selling it?
