Every city has it's local news 'magazine' that comes out weekly or whenever..and I've often wondered what would happen if someone wrote a beautifully written editorial about the Hobby, how it really is, and how LE seems to erroneously perceive as well as portray it, and what can be done about it meaning LE''s intrusive involvement, and laws that need to be changed, etc.
It could also mention the time, and taxpayer's dollar that is spent trying to rid people of: meeting new people, having a great time conversing and dining, and having sex! Damn those people anyway! They SHOULD be stopped! Let's focus on stings while drug deals and car thefts, and gang bangs go on around us cuz this is so much more important!
So, what do you think about writing an anonymous editorial and sending to your local magazine/papers?
I have the chutzpah (sp), but not the writing skills that so many of you possess.
You write it - I'll send it! And let's send to every city out there! Public awareness - whaddya think?!

Most states have state laws as well as local ordinances...so in order to decriminalize this hobby someone has to introduce a bill to do so.  Now, the fact of the matter is that very few men are going to go on record as decriminalizing the business when they have to go home to a S.O. who will, I guarantee you, take it personally.  Let's face it, even most providers would frown on their S.O. frequenting this hobby, correct?  LE use the excuse that there is a criminal element associated with prostitution, pimps, drug dealers, scam artists, etc. but the primary impetus behind the prohibition is land values (not in my neighborhood you don't) and women who don't want men to have that kind of opportunity to "stray" and of course the Church, which speaks kindly of Mary Magdalene but would condemn you if they knew what you were doing.  So writing editorials will not work in the overwhelming majority of communities...
That being said, police can be persuaded to put their precious resources into other areas, IF this hobby is low key, unobtrusive and continues as clandestine as possible.  But when
Sweetie Pie pulls up in front of the in call or out call location dressed like, well, you know...someone will complain and the LE snowball will take on movement again.

Depends where you ar how much freedom of the press you will find. San Diego is not the hight of intellectual freedom I am afraid.

All I intend to do is write a sort of journal, and an editorial on the life and the hobby - not anything (yet) meant to change the laws, etc.
There's a local magazine here that has great stories - ie, a whole thing about the life of a woman from Mexico working here as a maid and many others.
I'm not the kind of person who accepts "it won't happen" - I usually find a way to MAKE it happen, and, as long as you believe it will, it will.
That being said, although you're the only one thus far to have POSTED a reply, I've received a number of promising PM's. There's talent out there, and stories to be told...

Sedonia, I think there are at least two problems. First total misconception on the part of the general public as to the hobby as practiced by those of us on this and other boards.  I would say that most people don't even realize this loose network of people even exist.

And the second is judgement of the practices. Once people were made aware of the hobby as we know it, what would their moral attitude be.  I think if people really understood all of the benefits of participation that we have, attitudes might change, but that is going to take a long time.  But knowledge of what is really going on has to come first.  Most of my friends don't have a clue as to the extent of the hobby, the type of people involved, both clients and providers, and the thought put into the activity by most of us.

I have heard there is a reporter from a major east coast newspaper who is writting a article for a national men's magazine
and trying to shed some light on what the real facts are.  I don't know if it will help much, but it may be a start, and if done honestly may just begin a national debate on the laws and the so called crime.

BTW remember the laws against prostitution were not always here. The capital of Arizona at the turn of the century is said to have had two churches, ten saloons and twelve brothels.  Sounds about the right mix to me.

Sedonia, I agree with you in theory but in reality I think we would really open up a whole new set of problems. First, there would be a new large volume of unwanted publicity from God knows how many "investigative reporters."  Secound, (and this is really a big deal) the spouses. Any thoughts on the reaction of America's female spouses. It will not be pretty Sedonia and every politician ultimitly answers to them.(theirs and their constituents. ) When I discovered this activity last year I thought it was a story that should be told. As time has passed though, I feel the opposite. I think this activity is best conducted in the manner it is now, despite all the inherent problems. Hope Im wrong and please respond. I would be very interested in your thoughts and Im glad you raised this issue Sedonia. Best of luck to you!

Publicity is the worst thing that could happen for this hobby, because incompetent politicians will see it as a cause they can get elected on. The moral right is morally corrupt and not right at all, so logic and common sense doesn't work with them.
This activity does have the potential for interfering with long term relationships, so the vast majority of women will never be politically in favor of it.

many different opinions, thoughts, perspectives..helping you have a wider view of the picture.

Thanks Sswede and Sportstar for your input (and the others also)..gives me meat to chew on..

Heck, maybe I'll take some time to compile something and then run a rough draft by you all..
Those of you who've PM'd me, feel free to draft something up and email it to me at [email protected] - as well as anyone else out there who'd like to write something in regards to their experiences. I see this as a documentary on the hobby in general and on the experiences.

Thanks for the feedback.

Having had the opportunity to come to personally know a few providers, and learning of their circumstances, their motivation for participation, and their experiences, I've long thought an insightful article (or even book) might be quite well-received.

However, I believe it would be favorably received only by some--primarily those who are already favorably disposed.  I don't believe it would change any minds or sway any opinions.  Those who are opposed for social or religious reasons wouldn't be swayed.

As an analogy, look at the "pro-choice/abortion" issue.  Today I saw a car with a "pro-life" license plate.  It included caricatures of two toussle-headed smiling children.  As though all unwanted children live blissful lives (think: "projection"). People who've formed an opinion are generally not disposed to remove the blinders to even consider a broader (no pun intended) view.

Doubt you'd make any headway with such a piece in San Diego's "The Reader". My understanding is that the owner is deeply Catholic, strongly anti-abortion, and early on removed all escort-type ads. The few pieces that I've seen in this independent have tended to be indistinguishable from what's seen on the 5:00 pm local news.

On the plus side, the Reader has recently hired Don Bauder, past Business Editor of the San Diego Union Tribune. Bauder has continued his birds-eye view as to how the local gentry/politicians are pillaging and plundering our fair city.

Unfortunately you have a next to impossible battle.  On one side you have the religous right who views the whole thing as immoral and on the other you have the liberal left who believe the whole thing is degrading to women which makes it a capital crime in their eyes.  Neither of these group have shown the ability to here anybody but themselves.

Hi Sedona,

I think it's a great idea.  This site is a gold mind of information about providers, men, men's sexual attitudes, and the hobby.  It is sad that the information from here won't see the light of day -- this thing has revolutionized the business and given men a forum to talk about the subject that interests them the most for their entire life.  I have asked TER for permission to examine a sample of reviews to write a book or an article - however, I didn't get permission and certainly won't do anything without the permission.  This is NOT an attempt to pressure TER, they have to make judgements and as a member I have to respect them.

The provider reviews are a collection of sexual experiences that are not paralleled any place in the world.  It's too bad that lots of SOs can't find how simple it is to keep men happy.

I think if you wrote something and requested your name be withheld, magazines would honour it.  Make it a condition of publication.  Sue their underwear off if they violate the restriction.

Regards... Harry
