of a provider that you haven't seen in awhile.

If you are going to see a new provider and she wants refs from other providers, does she get tired of referring you after awhile?? Is there a time limit you can use a reference??

In theory, you can ask a provider for a reference as long as she remembers you. I would assume that works out to about three months.

The approach I have taken is to ask a provider for a reference one more time than the number of times I have seen her. In most cases, that means a maximum of two requests for a reference from any given provider.

This assures that any reference I ask for is current, and avoids the situation where a provider is tired of giving references for me.

I generally will provide a reference for a period of 6 months unless it is someone that I know very well and for a very long time.

Anything past 6 months, circumstances sometimes change, and I may not be aware of this, so, I am always wary to offer one after this period. I will, but I always do let the provider know how long ago it has been.

For an example, I recently had a gent who I have not seen in over two years use me as his ref. I explained this to the gal, that way, the decision is hers whether the ref is still valid or not, as her safety should always be HER decision.

I personally do not get upset if I am used as a ref more than a few times, but I am certain that some do.

Just my .02

Always,
Angel

Much has been written about tips vs. gifts, so I won't rehash it, but I never worry about "not being remembered" after 3 months.  Why?  Because I'm a good client.  One who's educated himself on what the "do's" and the "don'ts" are (thanks TER), I'm confidant that I leave a good impression with any provider that I see.  For my experience, a nice, thoughtful gift DOES get you more "bang for the buck" (pretty sure this is where this saying originated), and IS beneficial to you in other areas such as references, special favors, etc.  I confidantly use providers as references that I've not seen in 12 - 18 months (mind you, these are NOT providers that I've only seen once).  My only concern is worrying that I'm hurting their feelings by using them as a reference instead of seeing them.  Eventually, I will see them again, and historically these are usually the BEST sessions (they are so appreciative that "I've come back", that I'm usually rocked beyond my core!!)

You stick to your approach, and I'll stick to mine!    LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Angel,

You bring up an interest point about how things can change over time. But it leads me to this question. I would have thought when a provider calls another provider, the question most in her mind would be LE, is he who he says he is, etc...and once the inquiring provider knew if was actually a legit client, she'd be on her own to decide to see him or not. My question would be, how detailed does it get provider to provider and what could change over a period of time. For example, would you tell another provider if the client was abusive, or to expect to be treated roughly? He always paid, but it was a hassle. He was ok when he showed up, but typically called and rescheduled? He's harmless but is always drunk.

Just wondering

If you haven't seen her in the last 6 months, you shouldn't be using her for a reference.
