Thanks for the memories.  I grew up in the 50's.

My neighborhood also went swimming in a private pool with no life guard, only mothers watching, sometimes.

Fathers used their leather belts where I grew up.  You didn't want to do anything that would make the old man take it off and use it on you.

Fast food did not exist.  We survived on peanut butter and jelly or tuna fish sandwiches.

TV was still new.  It was black and white with mostly live broadcasts and old movies from the thirties and forties.  We only had one, in the living room.

Air conditioning was something that was mainly in commercial buildings and a good reason to go see a movie in the heat of the summer.

Yes, I survived, and my childhood was far better than that of my parents in the twenties and early thirties.
