I am a porn model, and will be working during the Adult Convention in Las Vegas. A friend and I have different views on deposits for "dates"! I want to ask for 25% to 50% from my clients, and my friend says I shouldn't!

The reason I want the deposit is because then it is a guarantee of the date. My friend thinks that the clients will give the whole amount at the beginning of the date! What do you suggest? I am a little uncomfortable being handed such a large amount of money! Advice anyone?

I have been in this hobby for about 5 years and have only given 1 deposit and that was only because I had met the lady at a M & G.  Most veteran guys will not give deposits.  The answer of course would be different if it was an extended date or you were flying the lady to see you.

Samantha,

Unless you are a well-known porn star who has been also providing for a while, I think you may find it difficult to get a deposit.  Without a history as a provider I think it will be a rare client who is willing to part with his cash before meeting you.

To understand the problem search for reviews here that recieved a 1 or 2 for performance.  This is what your clients are worried about... a provider who takes the money and runs.  With a deposit, the provider doesn't even have to show up.  It is difficult for the client to know whether you are legitimate.

On top of that, it is not unheard of for providers (and clients as you trying to protect yourself from) to not show up or be so late that the client no longer can fit her into his schedule.

If your concern is simply holding that much cash, I would think that your hotel can help you.  It's Vegas, they are used to helping people protect large sums of cash.  That way you will never have to hold more than one fee at a time.  I imagine most hotel rooms have safes in the room.

I wouldn't pay a deposit. That said, from a business perspective anytime you can get the money on the front end take it.

If the guy doesn't show, you are ahead.

From a personal entertainment view, I have enough well known ladies who will give me a referal that I would simply book with another provider.

My reason being, I have been stood up a few times and that would be money long gone.

I do have reviews as a provider and they are all stellar...I can also prove that I was a porn model! I do see your point, I was just going to be having extended times with me that consisted of me taking my client out on a date(or as I would say "out on the town")...that means I would pay for dinner, a show, the limo, fancy hotel room, etc...for a set rate! I also would like the times to be set in advance so I can reserve for this decadent date, and thought it would assure that he wouldn't bail after I had spent my time setting up this wonderful evening! Would you still think it unreasonable, or do I just put my trust in the fact that he will pay for the time?

By the way, thank you for the input...I really want this to be a memorable week in Vegas!

I personally would never send a deposit. That said, I do believe that in this instance you are justified in asking for a deposit, at least enough to cover your out of pocket expenses that you would incur if he cancels.

I can only speak for myself, but I believe that risking your time is an occupational hazard. Both parties risk the waste of their time if the other party no-shows, I charge more per hour for my time than the average provider, so I believe our risks are at least equal.that is the reason I would never, ever consider a deposit just to hold my time, anymore than I would send my attorney a deposit to ensure that I showed up for a meeting

OTOH if a hobbiest asks you to make special preparations just for him, then it's not just your time for the canceled appointment that you are out if he no-shows, you are out whatever time and money that you have spent in preparation for his date soley. I don't believe that it is fair for you to have to absorb that risk as a price of doing business.

Most of the ladies I see are for only an hour.
My response for an evening date would be different.

If you are getting a limo, making reservations  and incurring other costs then I would let the hobbyist know and then he can decide whether or not to give you a deposit. If he is not interested then make a lesser time commitment with him (one or two hours) but skip the whole date concept.

Different package ... different financial commitment.

I would never drop a deposit.  There is no way of knowing the provider is legit, even with a track record.  Someone can be working using your name and photos and similar email, .net istead of com, or aol, instead of yahoo.
No offense but I would be worried I am out the money just as much as you are.

there may be undercover cops at the convention?

If you are having escort-related discussions and are taking $ in such a public location, you may be the focus of attention.
